so ill leave you at episode 10ish to maybe 14ish where somewhere in there i think the very FIRST non slapstick almost credible things start to happen.

Character development is non existent until like episode 14ish. somewhere in there reallcharacters begin and loony toons ends.

Hold your nose from eps 1-12 or 13. its the worst. the rest i leave to you. Give my regards to master for all his invaluable teaching to hero. this anime as a whole is an embarrassment to the word «cultivation» but eps 15-52 is somewhat redeemable. so maybe you survive this one. good luck. remember. you were warned.

Bai Xiao Chun is a rather inconsistent character who cowardly tries to avoid conflict above anything else. Throughout the show, he prefers to beg and flatter his way out of problems, and if that fails, he surrenders or runs. In fact, his whole motivation is to live as long as possible, and that’s why he trains to be a sage-level cultivator in the first place, on the promises of immortality. This is all due to a traumatic event in his childhood, when his parents tell him that he must live on. While the show never fails to capitalize on the comedic factor of these moments, sometimes it could get frustrating, as if the narrative never progresses, because the protagonist is just trying as hard as he could to dodge all advancement.

However, there are a few times throughout the 52 episodes when Bai Xiao Chun is pushed into a corner and forced to fight. And here, he reveals that he’s actually a genius martial artist that dominates enemies two levels higher than he is, despite never really having trained to fight in stress tested situations. He switches from silly to killer in a moment’s trigger. Don’t get me wrong. He trains hard in various combat skills. But it’s hard to imagine him being good at fighting when he spends his life avoiding it. When he does fight, Yi Nian Yong Heng (A Will Eternal) shows off a brilliant high budget animation, one of the few 2D Chinese animations, and with very well directed action sequences that had me literally on the edge of my seat. As soon as I tell myself it’s about to get good, our Student Bai goes back to his silly self.

I will say that the comedy is rather funny, but it also happens that I sense it is stalling the plot, and I end up not enjoying it as much. And the training, despite it being drawn out, is actually one of the strengths of Chinese donghua, since unlike most anime, it actually shows serious attempts to train. In his spare time, Bai Xiao Chun is found reading books, memorizing herbs and their uses, practicing alchemy (which is a bit like blacksmithing, except with magical fire and herbal ingredients instead of weapons), and doing physical training to increase his level. In other words, he never skips out on training to sneak in to other people’s summer training camps.

Anyways, take it for what you would, but while I would prefer that Bai Xiao Chun steps up to the plate more often so that the main plot points could move forward, I could also appreciate how the protagonist is spending his time to increase his level to a degree.

The other reviews mention a harem, but there really isn’t one (although he ends up with one in the novel). The protagonist meets a couple girls that are potential romantic interests, but there is always one obviously primary interest, and never more than one girl per arc. The girls in prior arcs have a place in the story, but don’t interact with Bai Xiao Chun much. If you’re looking for it, you could convince yourself that the protagonist has it in the bag, but that is hardly the focus of the show. Except for main girl, none of the girls respect Bai Xiao Chun much for the majority of the arcs.

If you’re looking for a good all-rounder with a more relaxed pacing, perhaps a bit of slice of life before the main plot picks up, then I’d easily recommend Yi Nian Yong Heng. But if you’re looking for a power fantasy, you’d be sorely disappointed. While there are fight scenes to show Bai Xiao Chun’s progress, most of the time he’s coming up with petty little schemes to get out of jail free.

The series has quite a bit of drama, as expected from a Chinese show, but it’s definitely much less than you would think.
It’s HILARIOUS.
You will laugh throughout watching the whole series.
I saw in a review something about romance, so on that note, I would like to say that the »romance» part is after epp 48/49 when Bai (main character) changes his appearance because he is now older. Up until few last episodes he has the same appearance.
Love drama/romance is showed through elder Song Junwan (an elder of the middle peak of Blood Stream Sect). She falls for him and is annoyed that he is working in other peaks to refine pills.
There is a couple of scenes with them, but it is not so dominant.
Basically, until these last few epps you won’t really see much of a romance, maybe here and there some girls who fall in love with Bai Xiaochun.
In the last episode, the ending is definitely showing that there is another season planned (the war and so on).
I didn’t read the novel, but I found that Bai Xiaochun will have a couple of wives, so I think that next season/part will have much more romance than this one, because here he is mostly a child, until epp 48/49.
The main character’s Bai Xiaochun personality is what makes this show so funny.
He is cunning, he is smart, he is sly, he does have some good intentions, he is not evil, but he does do everything for himself.
He does not plan to hurt others, it just so happens from time to time when he is practicing/refining pills or doing something.
What’s interesting is that he has a divine beast from River-Defying sect and as seen in the anime he got himself a demon at Blood Stream Sect.
So he has 2 completely different pets.
He is really strong and capable, also very talented because he got enlightened with many sect secrets from different sects (well, I guess he is the main character for a reason).
Even though he is strong he prefers to act like he’s weak and does not like to fight that much or to show off his true strenght.
He is really afraid of death and that’s why he is practicing everything connected to imortality.

It’s an interesting show and for me, it was really funny!
I started watching somewhere at the beginning around epp 10/12 because I taught it would have 25 epps, but then they changed it to 52.
I am glad that I watched it and I am looking forward to next season.

Посмотрела 26 серий, насмотрелась на жалобы прочитавших ранобе, пошла смотреть новеллу. прочла до конца. конечно, со временем новизна происходящего немного стёрлась, но это действительно забавная и вдохновляющая вещь.

Главгерой не показался мне трусом ни в аниме, ни в новелле. Наоборот, это было очень реалистично и смешно (именно этот контраст по сравнению с теми ГГ, что вообще не задумываясь бросаются в бой, не преодолевая никакого внутреннего сопротивления, просто потому что мозг у них так устроен).

Юмор своеобразный. Ты вроде бы знаешь итог всех проблем ГГ, но всё равно ждёшь увидеть/прочесть, КАК это будет. Улыбалась до конца, хотя прям хохотать не тянуло.

Сначала хотела написать, что аниме безоговорочно 10/10, потом прочитала комментарии и вынуждена признать, что 9/10, потому что приятные эмоции ярче разума)

Комментарий: «мне мало просто героя который постоянно превосходит чужие ожидания, мало хорошей красивой сказки. 39 серий это слишком много для меня для жизнеутверждающей веселой сказки».
Соглашусь, потому что и сама поймала себя на мысли: «ну что-то же должен дать ему люлей, а то Ванпачмен какой-то».

Бай Сяочунь – главный герой данной сюжетной линии, скромный и неуверенный в себе парень. Самой главной мечтой, которой грезит юноша уже очень давно, является мечта стать бессмертным, стать одним из великих героев. В своих мечтах желаемый образ героя выглядит так: с виду юноша кажется совершенно простым, но на самом деле он обладает острым умом и умеет добиваться своих целей. Однако на самом деле, парень достаточно замкнутый и скрытный, ему трудно ладить с людьми. Для того, чтобы добиться желаемого, герой часто прибегает к обману, но это его совершенно не волнует.

В поисках способов для реализации своего желания по обретению бессмертия, юноша узнает об академии, названной «Великая Секта», в которой наконец то можно приобрести необходимые знания. Одним из способов, с помощью которых можно туда попасть, является способ призвать мага-чародея, который перенесёт героя в Секту.

Бай Сяочунь счастлив от того, что до заветной мечты осталось совсем чуть-чуть, но его ожидания резко рушатся, когда он понимает, что попал не в ученики мудрейшего чародея, а стал слугой. В отчаянии и гневе, герой протестует против своего нового статуса прислужника, ведь это ниже его чувства собственного достоинства, но никто не воспринял всерьез его протест. Раз за разом попадая в опасности или неоднозначные ситуации, он являет миру неприглядные стороны своей личности, но это его совершенно не заботит. В конце концов, Бай узнаёт о Секте, где передают сакральные знания, которые так ему нужны. Но как туда попасть? Парню удается призвать мага, который переносит его в особое место, о котором грезил главный герой.

Сяочунь уверен, что теперь от заветной мечты его отделяет лишь один шаг. Но он горько ошибался. Вопреки ожиданиям, юноша попадает не на обучение к мудрому мастеру или в просторный зал секретной библиотеки. Он становится слугой, приставленным к Кухне. Амбициозный герой пытается опротестовать своё новое положение и убедить окружающих в том, что прислуживать кому-то ниже его достоинства. Однако он только зря надул щёки: никто даже не подумает о том, чтобы дать ему хотя бы малейшую поблажку.
