7 activities on the topic “Fruit and vegetables”
With so many types of fruit and vegetables today, it is very important to teach your kids the specific vocabulary properly. Of course, you can find lots of interesting exercises to practise on the Internet. However, we have collected 7 most amazing and practical activities that your kids will definitely enjoy.
Guess the food
This task gets your children to use their imagination and to guess the food that is being drawn in the video. Divide your kids into 2 groups and ask them to guess the food before the time runs out. The one who guesses more words is the winner.
Fruit guessing game
Vegetable guessing game
5 Second Rule
The game is aimed at making your kids think as quickly as possible while naming the types of fruit and vegetables. For each question, they are given 5 seconds to answer.
Example:
Name 3 types of red fruit.
Name 3 vegetables that start with “A”.
Name 3 vegetables that can be cooked with eggs.
Name 3 vegetables that grow under the ground.
Name 3 fruits that grow above the ground.
Name 3 vegetables that you don’t like.
Name 3 fruits which grow on trees.
Name 3 fruits that you like most.
Name 3 fruits that grow on bushes.
Yes/No
Hide any type of fruit or vegetable — either real or a flashcard, and ask your children to guess what it is by asking general questions like: “Is it red?”, “Is it big?”, “Is it round?”, “Do monkeys like it?”, etc. The necessary flashcards can be downloaded from Pinterest.
Tasting
This activity will require some money and time, but your kids will definitely enjoy it. Select several types of fruit or vegetables, but not too many, some 7 types will be enough. Cut them in tiny pieces and give them to your students. They should taste each piece and try to guess what fruit/vegetable it is.
Sorting
Gather flashcards of different types of fruits and vegetables. Lay them out on the table and get your students to sort them by colour, fruit/vegetable, and shape. Ask them to name the fruits and vegetables they have sorted and make true sentences about them. For example: “This is an apple. I don’t like red apples, but I like green apples”, “This is a watermelon. My sister likes watermelon very much”, etc.
Make Food
Many kids like being in the kitchen. You can use your classroom as an imaginary kitchen and ask your kids to bring some vegetables or fruit to make their favourite dish. It can be fruit salad, vegetable soup, healthy snacks, etc. Ask them to work in pairs and introduce how they make it. It will be very nice if they use a blackboard to write down the ingredients and then to represent the procedure of making it. If your students have some difficulties to present it to their classmates, you can ask them to watch the following videos and then to do the activity.
Shopping for food
Get your students to watch the video about shopping.
Then ask them to work in pairs and roleplay. One of them should be a buyer, another — a seller. If necessary, preteach specific vocabulary to use in their dialogues: Can I have…? I am looking for… Do you have…? Can I help you? Thank you. You are welcome.

Food coloring pages
Food is not only essential for life, but it’s also a fun theme to color. Help your little one learn about food with these coloring pages!
Food is not only essential for life since it keeps all people alive and well, but it’s also a very important topic to learn about from a young age. Knowing more about food equals learning about culture, and it also means nurturing healthy eating habits from the start. In this food coloring pages, your child is able to find the names of some of the most common cooking items that can be found around the world. It’s a great opportunity for them to practice some vocabulary, especially for those little ones that are learning English as a second language.
For children, eating is not only a requirement for the body but instead. It also represents a time to be together as a family. Several studies confirm that having good dinner habits around the house is beneficial for children in the future. This is why it’s great for parents to take this important daily routine seriously since it can impact other aspects of their child’s life. For example, by helping your little one learn about the food you will be setting the foundation for bigger things to come. In these worksheets for kids, you’ll find a starting point to help your child start getting acquainted with this important topic, and it will also be quite helpful to reinforce any previous knowledge he or she may have about food items.
First, there are some coloring exercises that your child will surely enjoy! There are six drawings in total for your little one to paint. This is a marvelous way of incorporating a child’s creative imagination to language learning since as he or she paints, you can take advantage of this time to explain a bit more about each one of the items. On the first page, there’s a milk carton and a block of cheese. You can tell your little one that milk comes from cows, and that’s it the perfect companion to a delicious bowl of cereal for breakfast! Cheese, which also comes from cows, it’s perfect to prepare a yummy sandwich, and you can even mention that there are several different types of cheese. Next, there’s yogurt and butter. Both of these are dairy products as well. Yogurt is great accompanied by fruits, while butter is used in a myriad of different dishes. Next, there is a milkshake, which children love! It’s both sweet and refreshing at the same time! Finally, there are some eggs. Eggs come from hens, and they’re a nice addition to a nutritious breakfast.
After your little one finishes painting and decorating all these tasty food products, you can encourage him or her to have a go on the next part of the worksheets: writing! Ask your little one to trace the name of the items in English that appear below the images, this way he or she will get to boost their English vocabulary. You can also try repeating the words in English out loud to practice pronunciation as well. This way, your little one will get to improve several skills at the same time!
As an extra practice, you can cut these images and makes some easy, fun games for your little one. You could ask your child to draw a big refrigerator and play storing the items in it. Or you could also ask your little one about what types of food these items are. Are eggs good for breakfast or dinner? Or maybe both! You can also ask him or her what’s his favorite milkshake flavor, or the favorite cheese. Since all these words are very common, you won’t have a problem practicing at your own home.
Finally, you and your child can invite the whole family to play this fun singing game for kids called “Who took the cookie?”, in which you will have to find out who was the person who grabbed a cookie from a cookie jar. This song is quite fun, and it can also be a game to play in a group Read the lyrics to practice them, and have lots of fun chanting this children’s rhyme as you practice about food in English, and also, how to ask and answer questions in English. Enjoy!

Fruits and Vegetables / FREE Printable Worksheets for Kindergarten
Kindergarten is the first stage of learning for every student. It is essential because it provides mixed practices.
The parents or teachers can create something useful and exciting learning stuff to engage the kids. Kindergarten is a step where kids love enjoyment, want to see the surprises and if parents or teachers utilise or put their ideas, imagination while making worksheets, it would raise the chances of their development.
Identification of images, letters, colours is the initial part of their studies. Build an interactive session and try to teach these portion.
Let’s see some of the interesting activities for the kids below.
Fruits and Vegetables Worksheets
1. Fruit Alphabets
An orange, watermelon, cherry etc are available with their identity. What is the task? The kids have to dark those initial capital alphabets and pronounce them later. Here, writing plus noticing these two jobs they can perform simultaneously.
2. Fruit Letter
Here, you see all are fruits and the exciting part is names have written but the first letter is to rewrite. The kid has to rewrite those letters with a pencil. The benefit is to make the kids familiar with alphabets.
3. Fruit Puzzle
The kids love to solve the puzzle. Surely kindergarten kids never understand quickly but it is the actual task to engage them. This square already possesses the names of the above fruits. The kid needs to check the letters and words which are not arranged serially. Make a circle to that fruit name. For example, in the last row, you can see the word “ORANGE”.
4. Match The Fruit
Here, the kid can match the fruits and their names. The purpose of this activity is to identify the words as well as the images. Connect all these one by one.
5. Matching Fruit Names
Here is again pairing the fruits and the spellings. The kindergarten students try to catch every letter but it can take some time. This playful task can help them to recollect the new stuff.
6. Choose Your Fruit
Now, here only different images are included, all are not fruits. It is essential to check whether the kids can identify the fruits, are they recalling those impressions. If yes, circle the only fruit.
7. Circle The Fruit
Here is a combination of fruits and vegetables. By these images, circle those which are the fruits only. Ask the kids,” I want mango”, and let the kid select.
8. Choose Your Veggies
Here fruits are replaced by vegetables. The student tries to specify the vegetable image only. Identification can work deeply.
9. Specify The Vegetables
The images are mixed with fruits and vegetables. Now the kid has to select the vegetables only. Make a circle once you get an idea of it.
In the short, the above ideas are not enough but very effective. Fruits and vegetables are available at the home so, it is beneficial to give them a live demo by asking questions.
The kids have more capability to mimic or recall anything and parents need to take their regular practice.
