Free, Printable Highlights Hidden Pictures

Highlights Hidden Pictures is a huge collection of free hidden pictures put together by Highlights magazine. The favorite part of Highlights magazine for many kids—and even parents—is the hidden picture puzzles. With dozens available online for free, there’s no need to subscribe to get them.

Hidden Pictures Puzzles

Popular for generations, these puzzles feature a larger detailed scene that usually follows a theme. Within that larger picture are smaller items hidden throughout. For example, an Easter-themed puzzle might feature a picture of children, rabbits, and chicks in a grassy field, and hidden throughout the image are smaller items such as Easter eggs, baskets, bonnets, and more.

Not only are these puzzles fun, but they help children develop and practice important observational skills. Highlights blogger Mary-Alice Moore lists three key skills the puzzles teach: figure-ground perception, object constancy, and visual discrimination.

Figure-ground perception is being able to distinguish objects from their backgrounds. Object constancy is being able to recognize, for example, a banana as a banana in multiple pictures even if the bananas are drawn slightly differently in each picture. Visual discrimination is being able to recognize similarities and differences between two different objects. For example, an egg might be shaped like a rock, but one still can be distinguished from the other.

Solving Online Puzzles

Before beginning one of the online puzzles at Highlights’ website, you can choose to show the names of the objects to be found, pictures of the objects to be found, show both the pictures and the names, or keep all of this hidden. This is a great way to customize the puzzle for how old your children are and how skilled they are at solving such puzzles. As they get better at the hidden picture puzzle, you can turn these options off and the puzzles automatically become more challenging.

Use your mouse to click on the objects you find hidden in the picture, and they will be marked as completed in the picture bank and make a sound (sounds can be turned off as well if you’d like). You can also zoom in on certain areas of the puzzle to give you a closer look at different areas. Above the hidden picture, you’ll see a running count of how many objects you’ve found out of the total number of hidden objects in the pictures. Use the hint button if you need a hint to find a hidden object.

Hidden Pictures App

There also is a Highlights Hidden Pictures app for children 6 and older that’s colorful and easy for kids to use. A new puzzle pack is delivered daily through the app in addition to seasonal and holiday puzzles. A huge puzzle library of over 125 puzzles gives kids access to dozens of hidden object puzzles through the app. The puzzles on the app are each available in three different puzzle types for different ages and abilities. The Highlights Hidden Picture app does cost money but they have a free trial so you can try it out before purchasing.

Printable Puzzles

Education World offers dozens of free hidden pictures that come right from Highlights magazine. These free, printable puzzles feature scenes with pigs, treehouses, dinosaurs, bears, deer, inventors, chicks, kittens, boats, and more.

Another way to get hard copies of puzzles is at the library. Most libraries around the country offer Highlights magazine, and making copies of their puzzles is an inexpensive way to get puzzles for your children.

Answers

Also available online are answers to the Highlights hidden pictures that have appeared in the magazine. These Highlights hidden picture keys are organized by magazine issue date and name of the Highlights hidden picture. Highlights hidden picture keys go back as far as four years.

Загадка 1: найдите 8 кроликов, спрятанных на этой старинной картинке

Загадки и задания для квестов. 35 классных идей

Квест – очень увлекательная игра как для детей, так и для взрослых. Обычно это набор различных головоломок, которые идут друг за другом. Ответ на каждую из них – это местонахождение следующей подсказки или пароль/пропуск в следующий этап (смотря какой вид квеста).

Рассмотрим сегодня именно квест по запискам, который можно самостоятельно организовать в домашних условиях. Поводом может стать, например, необычное вручение подарка имениннику, развлечение для гостей вечеринки, внеклассное мероприятие для школьников или же просто весело провести время.

Игрокам надо последовательно находить записки и разгадывать зашифрованные слова — тайники. В конце всей цепочки будет ждать какая-то награда, заранее подготовленная организатором. Это могут быть различные сладости, сувенирчики (ручки, блокноты или брелоки, например). В командной игре хорошо, если презент будет для каждого участника.

Игра может быть тематической, то есть в ней заложен какой-то сюжет, легенда (пиратский, шпионский, волшебный, по мотивам мультфильмов или кино, поиски сокровищ и т. п.) — в основном для детской аудитории, а может быть просто набор карточек с заданиями — для взрослых. При выборе темы опирайтесь на увлечения виновника торжества или повода (например, задания в квесте на 23 февраля будут связаны с военной темой).

Популярные тайники для записок

Важно продумать последовательность тайников. Желательно, чтобы они были по всему помещению, а не в одной комнате. Если играете дома, то задействуйте и ванную, и коридор, балкон, кладовку, а можно и лестничную площадку. Чем шире площадь поисков — тем интереснее. Как прятать записки в тайниках

Прятать записки можно просто, положив их в тайник. Интереснее и сложнее будет искать, если использовать не явные предметы (например, если стул, то не кухонный, а пусть это будет стульчик кукольный или небольшая табуретка в прихожей, если чайник, то не тот, в котором кипятят воду, а заварочный, или вообще предмет может быть изображен на картинке).

Записки сверните в несколько раз или скрутите трубочкой и перевяжите ленточкой/нитками, а можно положить каждую в отдельный конверт.

Важный нюанс — чем младше игроки, тем проще должны быть спрятаны подсказки, иначе пропадет интерес. Для подростков и взрослых можно немного усложнить задачу.

Задания для квеста — это различные загадки, шифровки, ребусы, кроссворды, оформленные на отдельных записках. Ниже разберем подробнее примеры без использования дополнительного инвентаря (кроме ручки и бумаги).

Цифра — буква. Здесь записываем загадку или фразу цифрами. Цифры — это порядковые номера букв в алфавите. К заданию нужно будет приложить расшифровку — пронумерованные буквы алфавита (для детей) или скрыто намекнуть, что здесь есть связь с алфавитом (для взрослых игроков).
Картинка (символ) — буква. Здесь также, как и с цифрами, только вместо них будут картинки или какие-то символы. То есть каждому символу соответствует определенная буква в алфавите. Можете придумать любую свою шифровку таким образом. Картинками могут быть предметы, соответствующие выбранной тематике квеста (фрукты и овощи, просто каракули, человечки в разных позах). Вот, например, египетская шифровка из нашего квеста «путешествие во времени» (рис.).

Азбука Морзе — этот морской шифр отлично подходит, чтобы использовать в заданиях. Напишите задуманную фразу или слово символами Морзе, а расшифровку игроки могут поискать сами в Интернете уже во время прохождения квеста. Либо приложите ее к заданию.
Шифр масонов (или шифр «крестики-нолики»). Каждой букве алфавита ставится свое место в одной из четырех сеток. Запишите нужный тайник, используя «адреса» букв в сетках, как на примере ниже.

По первым буквам. Тайник будет читаться по первым буквам первых слов в каждой строке стихотворения или просто фраз. Если сложно зарифмовать, то просто составьте текст прозой, разбив его на строки (как на рис. ниже). Буквы подчеркивать не надо, здесь просто показано для примера, как читается слово «стол».

Задания для квестов с инвентарем

Если вы хотите, чтобы записки в квесте были спрятаны более интересным способом (а не просто лежали, например, в шкафу), а для разгадки мог бы понадобиться еще какой-то дополнительный предмет, то задействуйте различный квестовый инвентарь. В этом случае подготовка займет больше времени, придется все тщательно продумать.

Чтобы квест был динамичным и разнообразным, используйте все варианты, то есть и с инвентарем и без (например, просто ребус).

Мы привели здесь только сами способы, как необычно сделать или спрятать подсказку. Чтобы из этих отдельных головоломок получился квест, надо составить цепочку так, чтобы одна загадка указывала на другую.
