Dan The Man (also known as Dan The Man: Action Platformer, or DTM in short) is a game based off of the popular YouTube web series created by StudioJoho, and follows a little 16-bit character called Dan. There are seven episodes, or «Stages.» The series is written and directed by Joe Brumm. The music is composed by Dan Brumm. The game itself picks up where Stage Seven left off. The game is developed by Halfbrick in partnership with StudioJoho.
Contents
Dan, his fellow red-suited rebels, and two odd Geezers attempt to speak up for the Villagers and overthrow the evil King who is making them run on a treadmill to power the street lights. The player completes various levels, defeating five bosses, slowly invading the castle and eventually overthrowing the King. Dan, wants to save Josie.
Gameplay [ ]
The game is a side-scrolling action platformer. They can walk, jump, attack, and shoot weapons. The player also fights off enemies by tapping the attack button near them, or shooting them with a weapon. They can drop coins when killed, or food occasionally. Bosses are also in the game, and always appear at the end of each world.
There are different modes for this game, three game modes, which are Survival Mode, Adventure Mode (replacing Weekly Mode), and finally Story Mode, which has three Prologue Stages, twelve Normal Mode stages and Hard Mode stages. Other stories include Frosty Plains, and Fright Zone.
The player can select from many different characters, Dan, Josie, Barry Steakfries, and Custom Character. The player can collect coins to buy outfits, and upgrade characters and weapons. They also have a Revival Potion, which can save them one time if they lose their health. When the player reaches a checkpoint, it saves their progress. They can also destroy a statue with a TV, which makes them watch an ad to get a random item to use in the level, coins, food, or weapons. If they purchase premium, no ads appear in Story Mode, but ads still appear in other parts of the game.
In Survival Mode, where they can go into an endless battle mode, surviving for however long they can. They can use tokens from Special Fighters, and use them in the Token Machine. They can earn coins, power-ups, and Costume Tickets.
In Adventure Mode, the player goes through different stages revolving around different themes. They can get rewards such as costumes, coins, power-ups, and even Frosty Plains for free if collecting all 34 gold trophies.
In Hard Mode, where the enemies are more powerful and the player does not start with a revival potion. The enemies have new color palettes, and are more stronger, along with the bosses. This mode can be unlocked after beating Story Mode one time.
Achievements are also available to earn in Dan The Man, being added in a recent version, which is v.1.10.05 of 2021. Achievements can be earned by doing certain tasks with characters, or in specific levels. The main list of achievements can be found here:
Multiplayer Mode is where the player can play with other players around the globe. They compete with each other to see who can get the highest score. When connecting to quick matches, the game will send them to a random match with a random player. When playing private matches, they can start one or join one by using a four digit code. Multiplayer also has events every now and then.
Development [ ]
The game was originally a web series. In 2013. after Stage Seven was made, the game was announced, and started its development. The game has had a long development time for possibly about up to three years.

Hard Mode enemies also have different color schemes than their Normal Mode counterparts.

List of Enemies [ ]
Enemies (Story Mode) [ ]
Most of the enemies here consist of King’s Guards from the official series, with some old and new faces.
Royal Trooper [ ]
This is the first goon you ever encounter in the game. He has 60 health and deals 10 melee damage. In Hard Mode, this goon can attack again if his first attack successfully damages the player; his attacks knock the player back further, and he now has 80 health and does 20 damage. When defeated, the goon drops a silver coin in Normal Mode, and a gold coin in Hard Mode.
Soldier [ ]
(In Hard Mode, this goon can attack again if his first attack successfully damages player, and his attacks knock player back further, and he now has 50 health and 10 damage). Cool!
Gun Trooper [ ]
This enemy is similar design and stats to the Royal Trooper, except the brush in his helmet is orange, and he uses a shotgun instead of a baton. He has 60 health. The shotgun is slow and short-ranged, but deals 20 damage and has a knock back effect that can seriously hinder the player in battle. When the player gets too close to this goon, he can whack the player with his gun, dealing 10 damage.
In Hard Mode, this enemy has 80 health and his gun can also shoot electric spheres that have infinite range, deal 25 damage, and knock Dan back very far.
Shotgun Soldier [ ]
In Hard Mode, he can shoot an electrical sphere that does 25 damage and has infinite range.
Special Agent [ ]
This goon is a step up from the Shotgun Soldier. His gun (which is the FN FAL) can shoot rounds of three bullets; the bullets have fly forever and deal 5 damage. He has 40 health and does 5 melee damage if the player gets too close. Special Agents are less aggressive than most other enemies and will try to keep their distance from the player as they try to shoot him down. They can also pop out from hiding spots in the background of the stage. This goon can also do a tactical roll (40% chance).
In Hard Mode, the bullets shot from this enemy deal 10 damage, travel more quickly, and have larger hitboxes, as well as little to no spread.
Shield Trooper [ ]
This goon is hard to defeat because he carries a shield that blocks all melee attacks except for the power charge. Explosive weapons and a level 3 Modern Rifle can also pierce the shield. He has 60 health and can attack by either hitting the player with his baton, which deals 10 damage, or by charging, which deals 20 damage. To defeat this enemy easily, you can attack his shield, which stuns him for a few seconds, and then attack him from behind. Or, if there’s a hazard nearby (water, fire, spikes, bottomless pit, or electric field), you can get the Shield Trooper to charge you and then let him run into the hazard and kill himself, or you can repeatedly punch him until he falls into the hazard. This goon will occasionally drop an Apple, which restores 10 health.
In Hard Mode, this enemy is able to jump.
Royal Captain [ ]
This goon is like a normal Royal Trooper, but has 90 health and attacks more quickly. In addition to attacking the player with his baton, this enemy can also perform a headbutt attack if the player is too close. He can also charge at the player, which deals 20 damage.
The Royal Captain is the highest non-large enemy, having 90 hit points.
In Hard Mode, this goon can perform every attack 1.5x faster.
Cyberdog [ ]
This enemy can move freely and has two different abilities. He can attack the player at close range which deals 10 damage, or he can bite the player which actually does no damage, but holds the player in place until he repeatedly punches the enemy (if the dog isn’t attacked when holding the player it WILL do damage). Cyberdogs are also much shorter than most of the other enemies, which makes it somewhat harder to fight them off.
In Hard Mode, this enemy is exactly the same, only with 80 health.
Attack Drone [ ]
This enemy is dangerous due to it’s high damage output. It can hover in the air and has 80 health. It’s attacks are short ranged but inflict 25 electrical damage. Using long range weapons or performing high-kicks are recommended to destroy this enemy. Try to stay out of the drone’s range to avoid heavy damage. Like Shield Troopers, the Drones occasionally drop Apples.
In Hard Mode, this enemy can attack 1.5x faster and high stun resistance.
SWAT Flier [ ]
This enemy is basically a Royal Trooper with a jetpack that allows him to fly. He has 60 Health and attacks with a baton, which deals 20 damage. The best way to damage this enemy easily is to perform multiple High Kicks.
In Hard Mode, this enemy has 1.5x faster speed and does 25 damage.
SWAT Gunner [ ]
This enemy is basically a SWAT Flier and a Special Agent combined. He has 60 health, his the bullets deal 10 damage, and his melee attacks deal 5 damage. Like the Special Agent, the SWAT Gunner will try to keep his distance from Dan.
Using High Kicks or weapons can be useful to defeat this enemy.
(In Hard Mode, this enemy shoots 5 bullets that deal the same damage and 8 wide ranged missiles that do 25 damage each and can also immediately start moving after shooting, possibly shooting again. He also has 100 health instead of 60.)
Interestingly, this is the only enemy that isn’t affiliated with the King or his army in any way. Some theories think that they are on the King’s side since The Bats don’t attack the King’s Guards. The Bat can fly and has 40 Health. It attacks by diving at the player, which does 10 damage. High Kicks are the best way to defeat this enemy. In some areas, however, Bats will respawn infinitely until you have defeated all the other enemies in that area.
In Hard Mode, this enemy acts exactly the same but it has 60 health and deals 15 damage. Its attacks can occasionally stun Dan.
Vampire Bat [ ]
The Vampire Bat is an enemy only seen in the 2016 Halloween event. Its eyes are glowing red, full black, its attacks do more damage than a normal Bat does, and it can chase after you for longer, but it has less health.
Ninja [ ]
This enemy is basically a much more agile version of the Soldier. He has 60 Health and can deal 15 damage with his baton. He can also do a slide attack that deals 15 damage. The Ninja can also do a somersault or a tactical roll that lets him dodge your attacks.
In Hard Mode, this enemy is 1.5x faster and he deals 5 extra damage on all his attacks. He also has 80 health.
Ninja Marksman [ ]
This is one of the most dangerous enemies in the game. He has 80 Health which makes him very tough to defeat, He uses 2 pistols that shoots 5 bullets at a time, each one dealing 10 damage. If the player is too close, this enemy can also use a spin attack, whacking the player with his gun, dealing 15 damage. The Ninja Marksman can also jump, somersault, and roll.
In Hard Mode, this enemy can immediately start moving after shooting and can shoot twice, and now has 100 Health. This enemy also have the same stun resistance like Attack Drones.
Commando [ ]
Being one of the very few large enemies in the game, this enemy is extremely resilient, with a whopping 200 health. He has two Uzis, each of which can fire 5 bullets at a time (or 7.5 bullets when your game mode is set to Hard). This means that the Commando can shoot 10 bullets at a time, each one dealing 10 damage. He can also use these guns as a shield. Aside from that, the Commando can also attack by charging, or by headbutting if the player gets too close (both of these attacks deal 10 damage).
In Hard Mode, this enemy can shoot up to 15 bullets instead of 10, has 250 health, and does more damage.
Elite Commando [ ]
An even more powerful Commando with the same 200 health and all the abilities of a normal Commando, plus a few others.
In Hard Mode, this enemy can shoot bullets faster and rockets, has 300 health, and does more damage.
Bruiser [ ]
This enemy is much like a Shield Trooper, but with extra attacks and abilities. He has 120 health which makes him pretty hard to beat. The Bruiser, of course, can block attacks with his shield. He can also attack the player with his spiky club, which deals 20 damage. Or, he can use a charge attack that deals 25 damage. He can also stomp his foot, which stuns the player if he’s on the ground when the Bruiser stomps. Make sure to jump when the Bruiser stomps to avoid being stunned. Performing power attacks and drop kicks can help destroy this enemy easily.
It’s worth nothing that the Bruiser is the largest normal enemy in the game, even surpassing the Commando and Elite Commando.
In Hard Mode, this enemy has 180 health and the stomp attack can now deal 10 damage if the player is stunned by it. It also won’t be knocked back if you High Kick it.
Exclusive Enemies [ ]
Frosty Plains [ ]
Pitcher (NPC) [ ]
Exclusive to the Frosty Plains story, this enemy is a variant of the Soldier who can throw snowballs at Dan but can’t somersault. He has 30 health, and his snowballs do 10 damage. Alongside the Adventure Mode update, this enemy was changed to have more health, and do more damage.
This is one of the only exclusive enemies to not have a costume.
Pyromaniac [ ]
Exclusive to the Frosty Plains and Fright Zone story, this large enemy uses a flamethrower as his primary form of attack, which can burn the player. He can also punch the player if they get too close to them. Sometimes, the Pyromaniac can block attacks from the player by blocking it with their arms and flamethrower.
Fright Zone [ ]
Zombie (NPC) [ ]
Originally introduced in the Halloween 2016 event. Now exclusive to the Fright Zone story and in Survival Mode in a Halloween update. This enemy is somewhat similar to the Soldier but is more aggressive, more durable, and can use various melee attacks as well as grab and hold Dan. This costume can be purchased with real money.
Zombie Goon [ ]
Exclusive to the Fright Zone story, this enemy is the same as a normal Zombie but wears the same type of armor used by Royal Troopers and thus has more health. This is one of the only exclusive enemies to not have a costume.
Vampire (NPC) [ ]
Exclusive to the Fright Zone story, this enemy will fly after Dan and use various melee attacks. It’s worth nothing that the male Vampire looks like a normal Soldier wearing a vampire costume lacking fangs, so it’s unknown if these are actual Vampires or just normal Soldiers in costumes who can somehow fly. The female Vampire exactly the same as her male counterpart, except she has magical properties and can use electrical attacks.
Imp (NPC) [ ]
Exclusive to the Fright Zone story, this enemy can use melee attacks, breathe fire, and use a charge attack that leaves behind a trail of flames. This outfit can be unlocked by getting all stars in all levels in Fright Zone.
Mummy (NPC) [ ]
Exclusive to the Fright Zone story and certain occasions when Survival Mode is at Medium, this enemy can fly (via levitation) after Dan and shoot magic bolts at him. When Survival Mode is in the Halloween event, this enemy is a special fighter but cannot fly. This is one of the only exclusive enemies to not have a costume.
Custom Enemies [ ]
These enemies have varying stats, but they are all based off of Custom Character costumes. They can have between 5 and 120 health. Their attacks range from 5 to 30 damage, some can block attacks, some can jump, some can grab the player, some drop tokens, some act as zombies, some can use Dan’s weapons, some can use charge attacks, some can breathe fire and some can fly.
Adventure Mode [ ]
Mandibles [ ]
A Custom Character in a shark costume. This enemy is also pretty similar to the Soldier, but is way more agile, can jump higher, and has more powerful melee attacks. This enemy also has a female variant.
These enemies aren’t actual robots, they’re just Custom Characters dressed up as Baud the Robot. They have all the abilities of a Soldier, but they also have a higher defense and can occasionally fire lasers from their eyes. Purple Bauds are similar to Red Bauds, but don’t fire lasers, and are female customs.
A male and female custom wearing a bee suit. This enemy is just like the Shark, but with the ability to fly.
If you use the Mini Mode Easter egg, Bee Fighters will be appropriately sized and can be killed but will have the same HP.
Skeleton [ ]
This enemy can use melee attacks and charge attacks, block your attacks, and grab you, but moves very slowly, can’t jump high, and has low health. This enemy is the same as the Skeleton Goons, except she can jump higher. This enemy also appears in the Fright Zone, with much higher health and able to throw bones at the player.
Knight [ ]
The Royal Knights are basically the same as a Soldier, but with more health and only shown in Knights With Knives. The Female Knights are a step up from the Royal Knight, with the ability to throw knives at the player.
Dinosaur [ ]
A Custom Character dressed up as a T-Rex. This enemy is much like a Soldier, but can use more powerful melee attacks and even breathe fire. The flying variant of the Dinosaur Fighter is able to fly by flapping his arms; aside from that, he has all the same abilities as a Dino Fighter.
Villager (Enemy) [ ]
These enemies attack similarly to Soldiers, but have a wider variety of melee attacks, including spin attacks. It’s unknown if these are actual Villagers who are hostile towards Dan for some reason or just some of the King’s Guards pretending to be Villagers. They are exclusive to the Adventure level, The Peasants Aren’t Alright.

Bunnies [ ]
These enemies are exclusive to Easter events in Survival Mode. The Bunny fighter is basically a more aggressive version of the Snow Soldier. Instead of throwing snowballs, he throws five carrots in quick succession. The Bunny Blaster is an enemy armed with an Advanced Carlgustav, able to fire orange carrot missiles at Dan.
Leprechaun [ ]
Leprechauns are super aggressive and will constantly try to get to Dan, delivering nonstop melee attacks when they reach him. On rare occasions, they can even spit fire! However, they have relatively low HP and drop a ton of gold and a few tokens when defeated. Leprechauns are exclusive to St. Patrick’s Day events in Survival Mode, such as version 1.2.92.
Imperial Dragon [ ]
Imperial Dragons are extremely aggressive, even more so than Leprechauns, and will constantly pursue the player, delivering ultimate melee combos when they reach him. They have a lot of HP, but drop lots of tokens and a little money when defeated. They are exclusive to version 1.2.90 or any Lunar update, during the Chinese Lunar New Year events in Survival Mode.
Ice Cream [ ]
Ice Cream Goons are mid-level enemies that were first introduced in version 1.2.96 and are exclusive to Summer events in Survival Mode. They are goons in giant ice cream costumes that chase after the player and can attack him by using spin attacks and launching slow-moving homing missiles.
Red Lobster [ ]
Lobster Goons are enemies introduced in v.1.3.01, that are exclusive to Summer events in Survival Mode. Their power level is on par with Ice Cream Goons, and they attack Dan by using spin attacks and throwing Shurikens.
Snow Soldier [ ]
Exclusive to Xmas events in Survival Mode, this enemy acts similarly to the Pitcher, only difference being that they are in the costume, and not the same costume as the original Snow Soldier
Valentine’s Day Enemies [ ]
These enemies are exclusive to the Valentines Day adventure.
Huggies [ ]
A guy in a teddy bear costume. This enemy is basically a slower, weaker version of the Soldier that can’t roll away from your attacks due to his bulky costume.
Sexy Strawberry [ ]
A guy wearing a strawberry costume. Despite the name «sexy», it’s pretty much a weaker version of the Royal Trooper that can also grab you and block your attacks with his fists.
Cupid [ ]
A weak but persistent flying enemy that uses melee attacks. Think SWAT Fighters but weaker.
Bosses [ ]
Every three stages the player will encounter a boss that is very tough to beat. They all have a unique set of attacks and abilities. In Hard Mode, all bosses will become significantly more difficult with the same abilities but more health and more damage.
Forest Ranger [ ]
The first boss in the game, despite being added in May 24th, 2017 with the Prologue mode.
This boss has only 300 health and appears in the third level of the Prologue, Leap into Action!. It first starts walking either forward or backward, damaging the player if they collide during movement. Its only attack is jumping higher and then trying to land on the player which does 10 damage if it lands on the player, or 5 damage if the player is on ground due to the quake. During this attack, it cannot be damaged. When it performs this attack three times, it gets exhausted and stops moving for 5 seconds, giving the player a chance to attack. After this, the cycle repeats until the boss is destroyed, completing the Prologue.
Gatekeeper [ ]
The Gatekeeper is the first boss, excluding the Prologue. You encounter him at the end of Stage 8-1-3, A Boss Fight At The End Of The Level. After breaking down the gate to the castle, the Geezers and the Resistance celebrate, only to be interrupted by the Gatekeeper, making them run away.
This boss has 400 health and holds a huge minigun that can shoot 15 fast bullets at varying heights, each dealing 10 damage. In addition, the Gatekeeper can perform a charge attack, which deals a knockback of 10 damage. Another ability he has is to jump really high for a couple of seconds and then try to land on the player for 15 damage. If the player is still on the ground when the Gatekeeper lands, it will deal 5 damage to the player due to the quake. And lastly, if the player manages to get close to the Gatekeeper, the Gatekeeper can stomp on the player, doing 10 damage. Occasionally, the Gatekeeper overheats and becomes unable to do anything for 10 seconds, giving you a nice opening to do some decent damage to the Gatekeeper.
By jumping over the Gatekeeper’s head three times when he charges at the player without dying, you get the ¡Olé, Toro! achievement.
Roboriot [ ]
Roboriot is the boss you encounter at the end of Stage 8-2-3, Not In Kansas Anymore, with a ton of platforms. After the Geezers catch up to the Resistance, Roboriot arrives, making everyone run away.
This boss has 500 health and can perform different attacks depending on the player’s location. If the player is on or close to the ground, Roboriot tries to charge attack the player, doing 20 damage. If the player is on higher platforms, Roboriot shoots streams of water which deal 10 damage on contact and knock the player back. He’ll constantly summon anywhere from 2 to 5 Cyberdogs to distract and damage the player. If the player stands on Roboriot for too long, he’ll spin his hose around to try and knock him off if you don’t jump. The only way to damage Roboriot is to attack his head.
By defeating Roboriot without harming any Cyberdogs, you get the NO ANIMAL WAS HARMED (IN THE PRODUCTION OF THIS GAME) achievement.
Dark Master [ ]
Dark Master is a hard boss encountered at the end of Stage 8-3-3, Enter the Dark Master, with 600 health.
He has three phases that he cycles through for every 100 health he loses, so he cycles through each of the three phases twice. In the first phase, Dark Master will just teleport around the room and try to slice the player with his sword. In the second phase, he’ll summon six clones of himself and have them slam into the ground and explode, creating a shockwave that damages the Player unless he jumps. The player should also make sure to avoid being under any of the clones when the attack begins. Initially, all six clones will come down at the same time, but as Dark Master loses health, they’ll start to come down at different times, and the player will have to jump multiple times to avoid taking damage. After that, the real Dark Master will come down, and then rest for a few seconds before restarting the cycle. In the third phase, Dark Master teleports all over the room again, but this time he constantly shoots 4 (5 when your level is set to Hard Mode) energy balls at the player.
By defeating the Dark Master without losing any player’s health, you get the Re-Mastered achievement.
King Resistance/Final Boss [ ]
This is the game’s final boss, in Stage 8-4-3. Having gone mad with power after killing the King, the Hat Geezer, and everyone, the leader of the Resistance, the King Resistance, has declared himself the new king of the land, and is ready to crush anyone who opposes him with his giant red battle robot. starting with Dan!
This robot is so large that it appears in the stage’s background, although the player can still attack it. The robot’s head is its weak point, but for most of the battle it will be out of reach. The only way to bring the head down is to let the robot overwork itself; the dial on the robot’s chest shows you how close the robot is to overloading. This happens when the dial reaches the red zone, and every time the robot attacks, the dial moves closer to the red zone. The player can also nudge the dial closer to the red zone by attacking the robot’s body. Once the robot is overworked, it’ll power down and its head will fall to the ground, much to the King Resistance’s panic. The player can attack the robot’s head to deal damage to it while it’s down, but it’ll take a while to beat as this boss has 1000 health (or 2000 on Hard Mode). In the meantime, the player will have to contend with a wide range of attacks the robot has, which it randomly selects slot machine-style. It initially only uses one attack at a time, but once it loses half its health the robot might use two or even three at a time. It has three types of attacks; the first being a barrage of 6 rockets fired from the robot’s shoulders, which then lock onto the player either horizontally or vertically. The second attack has the robot spewing fire from its mouth, setting whatever platforms it touches ablaze for a while. The third attack is an electric-themed attack that has a few variations. The most common one is where the robot fires some electric balls at the player, waits for a few seconds, and then fires one last huge ball that deals extra damage. In the second variation, which it only uses after losing half its health, the robot shoots the eight balls from its hands instead, allowing it to shoot them twice as quickly. The final variation has the robot shooting them from its mouth six at a time in a hexagonal pattern. Aside from these three main attacks, the robot can also sometimes slam its fists onto the platforms to try to crush the player. This can deal massive damage to the player if he is hit, and if not the quake can still damage the player if he doesn’t jump when the fists hit the ground. Normally, it only slams its fist once or twice when using this attack, but on Hard Mode it’ll slam its fist several times in quick succession.
The robot also has a weak point on the top of its head, where the King Resistance sits; this weak point can be hit with projectiles to drain the robot’s health. The rocket launcher that sits there, if maxed, can get wipe out almost half of the King Resistance’s health on Normal Mode. The fire daggers are useful as they deal 15 damage each, and the Unlimited Shotgun can deal 30 damage per shot. After he overheats, you should have enough time to execute around 2 combos.
Exclusive Story Bosses [ ]
Roboclaus (Frosty Plains) [ ]

Roboclaus is the only boss of the Frosty Plains story. He was originally a Christmas-themed sentry robot built to help the Villagers with their festive activities. However, the Advisor came in to crash the party and infected Roboclaus with a virus that turned him evil. The Advisor and Roboclaus then went off to presumably ruin more Christmas parties.
First Encounter (Frosty Plains Stage 1-3) [ ]
The first battle with Roboclaus is fairly simply; he’ll just drop exploding presents for a while before overheating and crashing to the ground; this is when his defenses go down, leaving him open for you to deal damage to him. Your attacks won’t do anything to Roboclaus while he’s airborne. Just keep moving to avoid his bombs, and be careful not to touch the flame coming from his jetpack as it can do some heavy damage to you.
Final Encounter (Frosty Plains Stage 2-3) [ ]
This time around, Roboclaus has a couple new tricks up his sleeve. Sometimes he’ll shoot plasma balls from his mouth, which can be easily dodged if you keep moving. He’ll also use charge attacks, which can also be avoided if you stay out of his way. Once again, you just need to wait for Roboclaus to overheat and land to deal damage to him.
Frankenstein (Fright Zone) [ ]
First Encounter (Fright Zone Stage 2-2) [ ]
Frankenstein’s attacks are almost exactly identical to the Gatekeeper’s, the only difference is that Frankenstein uses a huge cannon as his weapon of choice. He also does not experience overheating nearly as often (his cannon overheats on rare occasions and cools down pretty quickly), providing less opportunities to attack him. The cannon launches huge cannonballs that are harder to dodge and deal more damage than the Gatekeeper’s bullets, but aside from that, Frankenstein has the same stomping, charging, and jumping abilities as the Gatekeeper.
