Daily routine board games

Board Game 1

This daily routine board game is best played in pairs and requires one dice. Students take turns in rolling the dice and moving their game piece. After landing on a square, students should make a sentence based on the image in that square. The aim of the game is to arrive at the center star to win a point. After winning a point, the student goes back to the start and begins again. The student with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

Board Game 2 – The Spinner Game

This Board Game about daily routines is best played in pairs. Each pair of students needs one pencil and one paper clip. Place the clip in the middle and place the pencil in the middle of the clip. Then flick the paper clip to make it spin and make a sentence using the target language.

Board Game 3 – Race Around the World

No Need for Dice! In this daily routine board game students play rock, scissors, paper, and ‘race around the world’. One student moves clockwise and one student moves anti-clockwise. Every time the student moves to a new square they should make a sentence using the daily routine in the square.

Board Game 4 – Flick The Eraser

This Board Game is best played in pairs. Each student needs one eraser (or something small and light they can flick). To play, a student should place his / her eraser at the bottom of the board game. Then the student should use his/her finger to flick the eraser. If it lands in one of the hexagons, then the student wins that area and colors it in. Next, the students should make a dialogue based on the daily routine in that area, and then it’s the next student’s turn. At the end of the game, the student with the most areas colored in is the winner.

#1: Flyswatter Daily Schedules Vocabulary Game

If you teach beginners, then consider trying out this fun and engaging vocab activity. The way it works is that you can write a bunch of words or phrases related to daily routines on the whiteboard. For example:

Then, divide the class up into two teams and each team sends up one player to the whiteboard. They grab a flyswatter and then teacher gives a hint about one of the phrases. The first student to slap a correct answer gets a point for their team. Replace it with something new and other students get a chance to play.

Quickly introduce the 4 words by drawing a picture on the board:

Next erase the moon and starts and invite a student up to the board. Say, «Draw afternoon». Help if necessary and have the student draw the sun high in the sky. Erase the sun and invite other students to draw the other times of the day.

You can also add some other flashcards for daily routines, such as brush teeth, play video games, etc. The more flashcards, the better.

On 4 of the boxes, stick one of the morning, afternoon, evening and night flashcards on the outside of each and place in different corners of your classroom. In the remaining box put lots of small objects, e.g. balls, bean bags, blocks, etc. and place in the middle of the classroom.

3. Create a «Times of the Day» chart on the board
If you don’t have a board, you can use a large sheet of paper stuck to your wall. Draw a vertical and horizontal line to create 4 equal squares and title each square with «in the morning», «in the afternoon», «in the evening» and «at night» (see image below).

Have your students copy the chart into their notebooks or onto a sheet of paper.

Next, your students are going to stick the daily routines flashcards onto the board. First model: take a random flashcard and show it to the class. Elicit the word (e.g. «wake up») and stick it into the «in the morning» section of your board. Write «I wake up» next to it. Have your students write «I wake up» into the corresponding square on their charts.

Then have different students come up to you and select a card (hold face down, fanned out, like a card trick). Have them stick the cards onto the board in the right section. For more advanced students you can help them write each sentence, otherwise the teacher can write the sentences next to the cards. Each time, have students copy onto their charts. Continue until all of the cards are on the board with sentences:

4. Add times to the «Times of the Day» chart»
Your students will have studied telling the time in a previous lesson (see our Telling the Time lesson plan). We are going to add times to the chart.

Now have students come up to you, change the time on your clock and write times on the board next to each flashcard (e.g. I eat lunch at 12 o’clock in the afternoon), and make sure these are being chorused and times are being written on the students’ charts.

NOTE: For times that are not hourly (e.g. 6.30, 9.55, etc.) you need to decide whether to teach the full times (e.g. half past six, five to ten) or the digital version (six thirty, nine fifty-five).

5. Play the «Daily Routines Memory Game»
Erase the chart from the board and take off the flashcards. Put students in pairs and get them to swap charts. Students are going to test each other on the times they do things.

Make sure you model with 2 students first:

Student A: selects a sentence on Student B’s worksheet (e.g. I do homework at 6 o’clock). S/He does the action of doing homework (e.g. writing in an imaginary notebook).

Student B: must guess the action and say the exact sentence on their chart (e.g. «I do homework at 6 o’clock in the evening»).

Student A: What time do you (wake up)?
Student B: I (wake up) at (7 o’clock) (in the morning).

Have students stand up and mingle, filling in their surveys.

For each pair, one student will act out their day whilst the other is the narrator (using the survey to make the narration). Give each pair 5 minutes to practice before coming up to the front of the class and acting out their daily routines, for example:

Ken (narrating): Hello, my name is Erika!
Erika: (waves to audience)
Ken: I wake up at 7 o’clock in the morning.
Erika: (Pretends to sleep, wake up, stretch and yawn, etc.)
Ken: I eat breakfast at 7:30 in the morning.
Erika: (Pretends to eat cereal, drink juice, etc.)
etc.

Encourage students to make their plays funny and also allow them to add extra parts (e.g. play video games, read a book, ride a bike, etc.).

At the end, get everyone to vote for their favorite play.

8. Read classroom reader «Tom’s Cat»
Let’s end with a nice story which reinforces the lesson vocab and structures. Before class, download and print off the reader «Tom’s Cat». As you go through each page, point to the pictures, elicit each routine action, elicit times on the clocks and times of the day and ask if your students do those things at that time or time of day, for example:

Get the students really involved in the story by asking lots of questions and getting them to tell you about their daily routines.

After reading the story, give out a reader worksheet to each student and read through the story one more time (without stopping for questions, etc.) as students fill in the missing verbs and write the times. Then go through the answers as a class.

My Daily Routine + Free Printables!

It’s no secret that I absolutely LOVE my weekly planner!

I carry it with me everywhere I go and reference it at least 27 times each day — seriously, I do.

And even though my daily planner is super helpful for remembering and tracking my weekly, monthly, and other long-term appointments and activities; I was still struggling to find the perfect “planner” for my busy, BUSY daily activities.

I like small planners, but small planners mean I don’t have enough room to write everything I do on a daily basis…so I resorted to lots of lists and sticky notes shoved inside my planner.

It worked, but I knew I could come up with something better!

I started looking around the web to see what I could buy or find for free, but I really didn’t come up with anything that I absolutely loved. There are a lot of other great daily planner worksheet and printables out there, but they never seemed to fit my life.

So I created my own!

I sat down and figured out exactly what I needed and wanted in a daily worksheet, and THIS is what I came up with…

Here’s a little explanation for each category in my worksheet.

Top 5 List:

Sometimes I have really productive days, other times I hardly get anything accomplished — can you relate?

However, even on my “bad days” I still make a good effort to complete my Top 5 List — or the MOST important things for the day. If my Top 5 List is checked off, I’ve done what needed to be done and the rest can wait until tomorrow!

Meal Plan:

I put the meal plan right next to the Top 5 List because I want to start thinking about any food I need to cook, bake, or defrost right when I wake up. This saves me a lot of stress around 5:00 pm!

Exercise and Water:

I don’t know about you, but I am REALLY bad at making time to exercise every day, and I never drink enough water. So I put these 2 items on my daily worksheet because I’m much more likely to do something if I need to “cross it off my list”. Seriously, this really works!

Other Boxes:

The left column below is pretty self explanatory — I think! I wanted a place to write all my other daily to-do’s, appointments, things I need to buy, and notes — so I created a good-size box for each category. And the appointments box even has a place for the time!

Daily Routine:

The right column below is my personal daily routine. I obviously don’t do everything on this list every day; but on days when I’m working from home all day, I try to check every box!

Double Planner:

I also created a Double Planner so I can print 2 sheets on the same page and put it inside my purse or inside my monthly planner.

This simple document has helped me be more productive, more efficient, and better manage my time each day. Plus, it’s always rewarding to look back and see everything I’ve accomplished in one day!

Free Kids Morning Routine Chart That Will Save Your Sanity!

Best Daily Routine Checklist for Kids (Free Printable)

It’s before school. And the morning rush is in full swing.

But, imagine if you heard…

“Mom, I brushed my teeth, put away breakfast, and did my school stuff. What’s my chore?!”

And it came WITHOUT having to tell them 20 times?

With the right organization, and morning routine chart for kids, it’s easier to get to the second scenario than you’d think.

Why We Do a Kids Morning Routine Chart

The first scenario used to be our everyday experience. Mornings were terrible. We were all in tears. And we had to seriously adjust our before school routine (see here for what we did).

Most importantly, I realized that if we were going to thrive, what we needed MOST was organization, clear expectations, and child independence. Plus, my kids had to be able to do things without me standing on top of them.

As the solution, I created a morning checklist for kids!

What should be included in a morning routine?

Like all good things, your morning routine is up to you.

We’ve found that the trick is to give kids more “good habit“ items in the morning. Tasks that get them ready for the day and out the door. Because in our experience, if you stuff too much in the mornings, it will hurt more than help.

So, these are all the great kids morning checklist ideas on the free printable:

*A note on breakfast: Make it easy for them to get their own supplies and clean up after themselves. My kids have the cereal and oatmeal in handy containers (within reach), they can get to the bowls, and they know what their other options are for breakfast. Plus, they MUST clean up after themselves in order to move on.

Now, here’s the thing. We NEEDED a kids morning routine chart. But, we quickly realized a routine after school is also crazy beneficial.

So, I made a daily routine chart that has both. After school, they complete a chore (see this free chore chart printable for kids), homework, and pick-up tasks.

*Now, my kids can always work ahead and get done in the morning what is usually for later in the day. Sometimes, they’ll get their chore for the day done and not have to worry about it after school.

How to Set Up Your New Routine

There are three things you need to get started:

2. Talk with your child and discuss a reward or consequence (read below for ideas)

3. Keep track and follow through!

How do I motivate my child in the morning?

As much as I LOVE the morning or daily checklist for kids, they wouldn’t work without rewards and consequences. They are kids, after all.

REWARDS:

So, if the kids complete their daily routine chart during the week, they get their electronics time on the weekend. (I also pay an allowance on a monthly basis).

If you need a daily reward, consider telling them they need to finish their checklist before playing with friends. Or electronics. Or whatever it is they love doing at night.

CONSEQUENCE:

Now, we did still need to come up with something daily and specific to keep my daughter moving in the mornings (girlfriend is NOT a morning person)…

So, if they don’t get the morning routine section of their daily checklist done before a certain time, they have to go to bed 30 minutes early that night.

We’ve tried to make this a natural consequence. If they are too tired to get ready for school on time, they must need extra sleep. It makes sense.

Important Tips for Long-Term Success

Alright, now you’ve got the gist of it, and how to get pre-made checklists. But, how do you start? And make it last?

Have a chat and do it with them.

First, discuss what’s expected on the kids morning routine checklist, your rewards/consequences, and model any tasks needed.

If this is completely new to the kids, start small. Put only a few things on the checklist. After a few weeks, add to it. Then add more later on as the kids can handle it. It’s better to start small and build than to overwhelm them at the beginning.

Once you begin, for at least a week, pay really close attention. YES, this is more work to begin with, but don’t worry, it doesn’t require a whole lot on your part after that.

Let the checklist guide them. Instead of you.

Now that they know exactly what to do, let go a bit. (This is my favorite part because it’s a lot harder to argue with a piece of paper than with a parent.)

Give them a small amount of freedom and choice. For example, let them pick the order of how they do things and when (within the morning/night sections). I’ve noticed that especially with my daughter, it’s best to let her do her own thing in the order that she wants.

As long as she gets it done, does it really matter?

Make the daily chart easy to use.

For this to work well over time, your daily checklist for kids needs to be in an obvious location and re-usable.

So first, place it at your kitchen desk, or hang it from your fridge or a high traffic wall. We like to put ours on clipboards (on the side of our fridge) so that we can also put school papers that need to be kept behind them.

To make it re-usable, stick it in a page protector (or laminate it if you have a laminator). Alternatively, you can place the chart in a cute picture frame if you’re putting it on a surface.

Finally, make sure there’s a dry erase marker next to it, or at least handy in a nearby location. If you want to get a little crafty, you can attach one with a string.

Add fun to your daily checklist for kids.

And now that the basics are down, don’t forget to loosen up. Listen to upbeat music and dance while everyone’s doing their thing. Let the system that you set up do its job, and follow through when you need to with rewards/consequences.

Это довольно шаблонный текст, который строится по простой схеме. Сегодня мы разберем, как рассказать о своем дне, о распорядке дня на английском. Как описать распорядок дня на английском?

Когда вы рассказываете по «повседневную рутину» (так часто переводят слова «daily routine», в конце статьи я рассказываю, почему это не совсем верно), важно использовать различные шаблонные фразы на эту тему. Например: take a shower — принимать душ, do the dishes — мыть посуду и т. д. Такие фразы вы найдете как в самом сочинении «Мой распорядок дня» на этой странице, так и в отдельном списке после него. Вот, как можно рассказать о распорядке дня:

Начните с краткого вступления, вроде «Let me tell you about my daily routine» или «I would like to tell you about my daily routine». В моем тексте вступление чуть длиннее, но суть та же. Расскажите, чем занимаетесь в течение дня. Как правило, день начинается с подъема и утренних процедур, завтрака, затем школа, учеба (не нужно подробно описывать день в школе), какие-то дела по дому (chores), досуг, свободное время, отдых, обед, ужин, телевизор/книжка и баиньки — расставьте в подходящем порядке. Все нужные слова будут в конце статьи. Подробно расписывать день в школе, количество уроков и проч. не нужно. Для этого есть отдельные топики, вроде «My Favorite School Subject». Подробно рассказывать о семье и квартире тоже не нужно, для этого есть топики «My Family», «My Apartment».

Если ваш день в реальности не очень насыщен делами, ничего страшного — придется выдумать себе пяток-другой занятий. Напишите, как вы ежедневно пылесосите (do the vacuuming), готовите (cook/do the cooking), гладите (do the ironng), стираете (do the washing), выгуливаете собаку (walk the dog), даже если у вас ее нет.

Частая проблема подобных сочинений — все предложения начинаются с местоимения «I», например: I walk the dog. I watch TV. I read books. Есть много способов этого этого избежать. К примеру, начинайте предложения с какого-нибудь обстоятельства: after school — после учебы, then — затем, before smt — перед чем-то, usually — обычно, и так далее.

Что касается времен глагола, большая часть текста будет во времени Present Simple. Вы рассказываете о каких-то обычных, повторяющихся действиях — это одно из характерных значений этого времени. My Daily Routine

We all have some things we do every day or almost every day in a particular order. They are called “daily routine”. Let me tell you about my daily routine.

My typical day is quite busy, it begins at 6 o’clock in the morning when I wake up. When my alarm goes off, I turn it off, get up and make my bed. Then I take a shower, brush my teeth and do my morning workout. I do not exercise much in the morning, just a few simple exercises such as push-ups.

Usually, my mom makes breakfast for all of us, which is my parents and I. My older brother is a student and he lives in a dormitory. I have breakfast with my family. My father usually walks our dog, but when I have enough time, I like walking the dog myself.

After breakfast I go to school. I do not walk there because it is too far. I take a bus and get off by the school. It takes the bus about 15 minutes to get there, so I usually play games on my phone or watch YouTube videos. My classes start at 8 a.m. After the third lesson we have a break. My classmates and I go to the cafeteria where we have a cup of tea with a sandwich and chat.

After school, I take a bus home. Sometimes my friend’s father picks him up, and they give me a ride. At home I have lunch, then do the dishes. My mom works part-time and spends the morning hours at home. Usually, she goes to work at 2 pm. When my parents are at work I do the chores. I clean up the kitchen and my room, the living room if necessary, then I do the vacuuming in the hallway and feed the dog.

Then I just rest and do whatever I like. I go to the gym three times a week with my friends. So if it is a gym day, I go there. If it is not, I just watch TV or surf the Internet.

When my mom comes home, we cook together. While we are cooking, she might ask me about my day at school. My father returns from work a bit later. We have dinner together, then I do my homework. If I have enough time, I might watch a show, read a book or play a videogame. Sometimes we watch TV together. I am not a very outgoing person but once or twice a week I might go out with my friends. We love hanging out in the local part which is right next to the building where I live.

Normally, I do not stay up late, and go to bed at 10 or 11 o’clock in the evening. That is my daily routine.

Что значит «Daily Routine»?

Английское существительное routine часто переводят как «рутина», а «daily routine» как «ежедневная рутина» — это не совсем верно. В русском языке «рутина» — это что-то набившее оскомину, скучное. Словарь Ушакова определяет «рутину» как «консервативность, рабское следование заведенному шаблону или известным навыкам, превратившимся в механическую привычку».

Английское же существительное routine — это чаще всего просто устоявшийся распорядок дел или определенная последовательность действий. Например, танцор под routine понимает последовательность движений в своем выступлении (мы вряд ли скажем «танцевальная рутина»), инструктор по фитнесу составляет workout routine — программу тренировок (а не «тренировочную рутину»), в которой указано какие упражнения и как нужно выполнять, ну а daily routine — это повседневные дела или распорядок дня.
