Castle Crashers is a beat-em-up that sets players on a fast paced adventure that never lets up.
This 2D adventure game features a killer soundtrack and plenty of fantasy elements that add up to an immersive experience(almost addicting!).
It also features a co-op story that allows four players to join together to save the princesses and defeat the dark wizard.
Within the game there are plenty of characters to choose from, each with different advantages and different styles of play. In this list I’ll be ranking my 10 favorite characters from the game and sharing some of their best maneuvers.
10. Green Knight
Portrayed as the angriest of the colored knights, the Green Knight is one of the core characters of the game and centers around his use of poison.
All of his moves deal some sort of poison damage. Some of which deal damage over time.
Poison ball, blast and jump all deal base magic damage and poison damage over time.
9. Skeleton
Brought to life by the Necromancer, this undead character is equipped with a Skeletor Mace.
First appearing in the game as an enemy, the Skeleton becomes a playable character once the game is completed with the Red Knight.
The skeleton utilizes the dark element, dealing base magic damage with his moves.
Dark Pillars is his splash move dealing damage to enemies based on their defense. And Dark Shot is his projectile move that has a quicker cast rate than most projectile attacks.
8. Bear
Harnessing the elemental powers of the wind, the Bear is a fierce enemy that also becomes a playable character later on.
This character is equipped with a lethal club for battle. His signature splash move is the unique Tornado, which is different from most splash moves.
Tornado is an attack that can be controlled and directed towards enemies dealing magic damage upon contact.
In addition to Tornado, Bear can also hurl wind balls at his enemies as a projectile attack.
7. Conehead
Wearing a cone-like helm, this playable character is a very strong attacker.
All coneheads deal fire damage with their bomb attacks. Bomb toss and bomb drop are two different attacks that the Conehead can use to attack hidden enemies, causing knockback and fire damage too.
These bombs are the only magic projectiles that can hit more than one enemy, making this character very useful when you are outnumbered.
Conehead uses the Arrow Rain splash attack sending three arrows down upon the enemies in front of him, knocking enemies over.
This character is great at hitting multiple enemies and causing fire damage in a jiffy.
6. Fire Demon
Wielding a Black Morning Star, the Fire Demon deals plenty of fire magic damage as its title may suggest.
This draconic character’s move set is entirely made up of fire damage, dealing damage over time, and being able to knock enemies back a few paces.
With yellow eyes, large wings, and sharp teeth, this character has an intimidating look when charging into battle.
Because every attack deals fire damage, certain enemies may be able to avoid damage entirely. Despite this weakness, the Fire Demon makes up for it by dealing plenty of solid hits with Fireball, Flaming Pillars, and Flame Engulfment.
5. Alien
The Alien is equipped with a signature alien gun that fires projectiles dealing non-elemental magic damage.
While this character has many advantages, what really sets it apart is the extremely high cast rate for its splash attack.
Comet can be cast three times faster than normal splash attacks, dealing fire damage and base magic damage.
This powerful attack deals burn damage over time and knocks enemies incredible distances.
Note: this move alone earns the Alien a spot on the list, and definitely sets it apart as one of the best characters in the entire game.
4. Blue Knight
The Blue Knight is one of the core characters available at the start of the game using the main element of ice.
This powerful character can freeze multiple enemies in place, giving you a huge advantage during the battle.
And this knight has multiple projectiles that will freeze the enemy upon contact. The only downside that the Blue Knight faces is the high cost of mana per projectile.
His splash attack, Ice Shards, is extremely powerful and useful in stopping enemies where they are hit… however it costs so much mana that it can only be used twice per mana bar.
Despite this drawback the Blue Knight is still undeniably one of the most powerful fighters in the game.
3. Fencer
The Fencer is a lethal fighter that is equipped with the fencer’s foil.
He is one of the very few characters that uses buzzsaw technology, which can be used in extremely powerful ways to clear rooms full of enemies.
The Fencer deals non-elemental magic damage and deals it fast. He has the magic and air projectile Buzzsaw, which sends a buzzsaw blade through the air towards the enemy.
Through spellweaving, this character can pull off some impressive moves between the various projectiles and splash attacks.
The splash attack Saw Trap is the most powerful attack against enemies that are not knocked down, allowing the Fencer to send up to 7 saw blades across the ground.
These saw blades are not hindered by any obstacle or distance, making this attack extremely damaging to multiple enemies on any side. Talk about crazy!
2. Red Knight
The Red Knight wields a mace and is arguably the most powerful of the knights that are available at the start of the game.
This character uses electricity as its main element and can deal plenty of damage while stunning enemies for efficient crowd control.
Similar to the Blue Knight, the Red Knight is great at subduing multiple enemies.
What places the Red Knight so high on the list is its unique ability to deal damage while also stunning them in place.
The splash attack Thunderbolt can stun a crowd of enemies while dealing damage at the same time, giving the Red Knight the right tools to clear entire rooms of enemies single-handedly.
1. Industrialist
The Industrialist is definitely the most powerful and versatile character in the game.
This heavy hitter has the same buzzsaw technology that the Fencer has, with just a minor difference that gives it a slight edge.
Your starting weapon for the Industrialist is the Ugly Mace which gives this character a significant boost of defense.
So not only is the Industrialist a dangerous fighter, but it can also absorb a good amount of damage from all enemies.
The splash move that the Fencer and Industrialist share is a unique ability that makes these characters efficient at taking down bosses by combining their projectiles and splash attacks to chain combos of damage that are devastating when timed properly.
Both characters are strong, but the Industrialist takes the top spot because of its high attack, unique abilities, and strong defensive stats.
Top 10 Best Castle Crashers Characters
The Red Knight is one of the four basic starting knights. The Red Knight uses lightning-based magic, and his default weapon is a gray mace. Many players use this knight because of his «crowd control». He can stun enemies with his magic. Many consider him the strongest knight out of the four starting knights. His lightning magic can stun enemies, similar to the Blue Knight. What do you think about the Red Knight? Agree?
Red Knight is the best. If you have not played insane mode, I urge you to try it. Bosses are not an issue in insane mode. The swarms of regular enemies are. His magic attack is best for minions. He is also very helpful on the wedding crash boss and he is a must have for the necromancer. The downside to him is that his elemental damage nerfs his xy (st) combo and his magic will not work very well on cultist minions.
I beat the game with this character. Definitely one of the most overpowered characters with its splash ability, only losing out to Industrialist and etc. Stunlocking is so easy with this character it makes the game look like a piece of cake compared to characters like Blacksmith and Conehead which don’t have anything that can necessarily stunlock. So yeah, if you’re starting a playthrough of CC/CCR, use this one. It’s (one of! ) the best.
One of my personal favourites (and the one I first beat the game with), and he keeps his place on that tier list. Personally he’s hands down the best for online PVP, because his splash attack can stun enemies for the entirety of your mana usage. Downsides being that he’s not great in boss fights unless accompanied by a higher DPS character.
With that magic, if you train yourself and use proper timing, the green knight puts all others (including red knight) to shame.
At first I picked him because he looked cool but now after I try the others, he’s the best.
He can poison people then continue attacking people. Plus he looks pretty badass!
Indeed the red knight may be better, but nothing compares to knocking your enemies back against a wall countless times using fire magic. Sure, lightning stuns enemies and does a considerable amount of damage, but then you are left vulnerable until you decide to stop your lightning strike.(get it! ) Anyway, as an Orange knight user, he was my first knight I played, and is currently level 77. He is great for clearing away enemies, knocking them back, and them swiping your sword. The orange knight is great at crowd control if you can stay mobile, and steer clear of enemies behind you. Just remember to block. I played castle crashes as my orange knight and played alone, yep ALONE. I managed to survive and gradually realized how awesome fire knight is. Overall, fire knight is more practical, for he isn’t vulnerable while using his magic. Fire knight deserves more attention.
The fire knight is the best in the game, in my opinion. The fire he uses can blast enemies so far and still get them a burn after the magic is released. I do believe poison and fire are somewhat the same, here I think is the difference in their magic. Fire can blast enemies way of the ground which will leave them with a lot of fall damage. While the poison magic can have a longer rate of poison after the blast is done.
His magic can be OP once you level him up a lot. He has great combos, high damage, and perhaps the most powerful element of the starters. He does very good damage and can be a big help on bosses with his burn ability. His burn might not be as effective as the blue knight’s freeze or the green’s poison, but he for sure does the most damage and can be great for both boss battles and crowd control. Plus the ax is the coolest weapon out of the original four and he is easily the best starter and perhaps the best character in the game in my opinion. THIS DUDE IS AWESOME!
I beat the game with the orange knight. He is one of the best magic knights and will easily whoop enemy face
The blur knight in my opinion is one of the best sure he is a little. pricey but that can be fixed by leveling up your magic recharge plus I just got this game today (Thursday, March 26 2020) and I’m already halfway done, plus you unlock the industrialist and the fencer, that’s better than a little poison, lightning and fire combined! you can just control the crowd with your ice attacks and he’s a good long range and short range!
I feel the blue knight is the best due to the freeze powers. He may need some skill and use half his mana to cast his cone, but the freeze makes up for it. Plus it makes it better than any damage over time the fire users or poison users have. So he probably have the lowest magic damage but great to take opponents out of the fight.
After leveling up magic a bunch, a combo is unlocked (PS3 combo shown: square X 3 then triangleX 1) when this combo is executed, 3 normal slashes of your weapon and traingle freezes your enemy. When enemy frozen you can repeat this combo, even on beefy enemies. Before using combo on beefys use your basic magic (R2+ triangle for PS3) so you can walk up to the end execute it. When you attack a beefy that’s frozen the frozen effect doesn’t break like other enemies would. This character has one of the best croud control magic along with the bear
The best character in the game, PERIOD. His freeze attacks may take up a lot of mana, but he is one of the only characters that is able to not only beat the game solo, but take down insane mode solo like a breeze, no questions asked. The only downsides is his lower DPS, but that can be looked over with his infinite attacks.
The Necromancer may look cool and have an awesome theme, but he sucks as a playable character. His splash magic is weak, slow, and bugged. (sometimes the enemies can go right through it unharmed) Not good.
Not only does he summon the dead, he has one of the GREATEST theme songs in any game period. He is, bar none, the number one sought after unlockable character in the game
Is sword has no debuffs for starters. his splash magic is skeleton hands coming from the ground, and his jump magic releases a skeleton which runs along the line that you’re standing on
The necromancer is cool because he put up a good fight. Also his magic shows skulls and all kind of the dead.
His tornado attack makes him arguably one of the best crowd control characters in the game, as well as he condensed attacks taking down bosses. Plus, he’s got a fish bow.
I like lightning a lot, but it’s the Bear! Tornado magic! Awesome look!

I like this character for his cosmetics and magic. His magic varies from frog tongues to a flaming hammer. COLLL! But I understand he isn’t the ideal crowd controller. I’m level 25 with him and it was difficult overcoming many enemies at once. What keeps him going is his various magic abilities and default hammer weapon, which is cool. Overall a fun and cool character, deserves like 10th or even 8th place though
He does look the best and I LOVE his magic hamer attack because I was level 2 fighting the barbarian boss and it did 12 damage each time BEFORE I upgraded!
I used him as a spare melee character, his magic is decent, I think he is a good melee character just saying.

FREE Booms from free bombs for his second magic makes him prize and pride.

This knight has. Interestingly fun crowd control and great projectile magic. Just isn’t your ideal hack and slash murder. But then again, it takes a psychopath to smile as a he decpitates his enemies with rainbows and a lollipop. Very fun and comical character, recommend using him when bored.
How can this beautiful knight not be in the top 10? He uses rainbow magic and a lollipop sword to kill his enemies! Plus, he is the only character in the entire game that’s always happy and has hearts going over his head!
My theory is that this knight is a girl in disguise to become a knight Just take that in for a second.
Pink knight is my favorite, I started off with them after replaying the game after a few years, and wow, they are a great character. Super cute, strong, and is a just good character overall, everyone is entitled to their opinion but this is just mine so please don’t hate UwU
Obviously we have a lot of uneducated people voting around here.
Fencer’s splash attack alone makes him the ultimate character; it’s above average on anything. It kills bosses and beefies in seconds, and it has some of the best crowd control on normal enemies. It’s among the cheapest magic in terms of mana cost, and it stays out longer than normal, allowing strategic use like a bear trap, or cover while reviving a fallen team mate.
If that isn’t enough, Fencer has that sleek, efficient, steamlined appearance that only he possesses, and he’s got a six pack to top it off.
Fencer is love, Fencer is life.
There’s literally no reason that Fencer should be #13 and mothafoopin Red Knight #2; Red Knight has some of the most nerfed magic I’ve seen in any game, and I personally find him to be the third worst, #1 worst being Hatty, and #2 worst being Blacksmith

People can say all they want in terms of what character they like more, but in terms of usability the Fencer is the most overpowered character in the game.
He has the highest splash damage output on bosses, when his spell is maxed he can hit a single enemy 32 times in half a second, his splash move has maximum range from level 1, and his splash is quite literally programmed to do more damage against bosses than against normal enemies.
Fencer is the best boss killer in the entire game. Not to mention he is super easy to beat insane mode with. ‘enough said. If you don’t acknowledge Fencer as the best character in the game, you know nothing of castle crashers.
Good splash magic (giant saw blades) that are great for bosses and beefys. Also he uses mana the very slowly so you don’t have to wait for it to recharge.
His splash attack op
Great for multiplayer because he heals players and himself. And he’s great for bosses! And very good for hard bosses! And seriously if you put him with magic and one of the starting knights, HE IS USEFUL! Unless the other players ask for healing too much.
His heal makes him ESSENTIAL for online playthroughs with your friends, making him one of the best support characters in the game. Sucks solo.
I love the healing
Brute has sick magic and looks like a tank, he’s also one of the harder characters to unlock, making him more rare to see. If you say he’s not the best then you probably havnt played as him.
He’s very underrated and great for tanking and beating crowds of enemies. Just a great character that needs some spotlight.

I have a level 84 industrialist and even in insane mode he can kill barbarian boss in less than 3 seconds with his magic.
He is overall one of the best DPS characters in the game (along side the fencer) and is great for mailing down insane Mode like a breeze.
I voted industrialist and fencer because they are the same but you get industrialist before fencer which barely makes a difference since it is so easy to beat the game with it takes like an hour less of game-play to get industrialist so I vote him as the best only because of that tiny reason.

I think the grey night is best because his arrow rain does amazing damage and u can’t block it, he can freely use bombs whenever he wants and he is definitky the best at doing damage to multiple enimies at once. Did I mention he is very easy to level up. come on guys the grey knight is easyly the best character in the game.

Is this also including his resurrected boss fight, or not. Anyway his first fight is fun, a bit difficult, but a great fight overall. His 2nd and final fight is also fun but it’s hard to hit him since he is always running around.
The Cyclopse is one eyes beasts, very great power, big body and easy intellect. Cyclopse is very speed fighters and super kicking to foots.
Although most of his character is just non-elemental attacks, his magic makes him one of my personal favourite characters to play with. Nature is one of the elements that you almost never see (especially because not everyone has the brute, or plays as the thief) and it makes for great crowd control and upclose DPS. Wish he had bombs tho.

One of the few characters in the game that can actually speak. Besides this, his whole boss fight is basically one big Newgrounds joke. His dialogue besides is humorous. I mean, when else will someone tell you that their brush is mightier than you sword? No one besides The Painter.
He is amazing. I finished the game with green knight/royal guard and I love him (Saracen) so much. He’s like the bear (same tornado with diffrent colour) I can’t understand why people doesn’t like saracen,Maybe it because his look,I love him style,he’s cool actually!
His elemental infusion combo can infinitely attack enemies until they die or if icekimo gets interrupted in his combo. His splash deals good ice damage and freezes enemies. His projectile is non-elemental and is not resisted even by the culist.
