She often carries around her blue bag with fake sweets. Inside is a taser, a knife and other tools that she might use to protect herself or committing murder.
Personality
Outwardly, Satou appears to be a kind girl who enjoys spending time with her friend Shōko Hida. Apparently, Satou is somewhat of an idol for her co-workers and admired by the people around her, always being friendly and knowing what to do in any situation. Shouko reveals that Satou has many stalkers. She is also popular at her school and appears to be well-educated and practical.
However, it is a façade and in reality Satou is a manipulator who is willing to lie, cheat and even kill if that means that she’ll get what she wants which is being able to stay with Shio. Satou snaps when she sees someone as a threat to Shio or her sugar happiness with her, such as the apartment owner and Asahi Kōbe, which she refrained from bashing his head in with a crowbar. Although she does understand that killing would reduce her chance of being with Shio. She usually plans things ahead and uses social manipulation to get her way rather than violence.
Satō’s yandere eyes
Satou did seem to show remorse when she murdered Shouko. She seemed to object to killing her friend, but didn’t see any other way to get rid of her. Satou uses her aunt as an excuse for her behavior whenever she has self-doubt or feels guilty. This is the only way she can accept the kind of a person she became.
Many of her behavioral symptoms are tied to the Yandere trope for her and Shio to live in and spend their days together forever, away from the «corrupted and filthy» outside world.
Background
Satō as a child with her aunt
At a young age, Satou’s parents passed away in an unknown accident, leaving Satou in custody of her aunt. Satou’s aunt would often bring by strange men to sexually and physically abuse her while Satou was quietly observing it. «Auntie» taught Satou about different kinds of love throughout her childhood, raising Satou with deranged ethics to accept all types of «love» and love everyone. Auntie stated she had to swallow up all of Satou’s joy and desires, such as Satou’s teddy bear that has been ripped apart by Auntie. She told Satou that this was «love». It is because of this type of upbringing that made Satou have mixed feelings about love. She dislikes the thought of loving everyone as she is firmly convinced there should be one person to love the most in the world. In an attempt to find this person, Satou would hang around and sleep with many boys and men, but no special feelings bloomed, only a feeling of bitterness settled in her heart.
One day it was raining and an artist asked Satou if she wanted to stay inside his house so she can dry off. Satou accepted the offer and offered to repay him in exchange for the shelter and modeled for a painting. From then on, she regularly visited his apartment. They had conversations regularly while he was drawing Satou. However, when Satou brought Shio Kōbe to the apartment, the artist noticed that Satou behaved very strange and different from usually. As a result, he tried to strangle Shio while Satou was searching for towels, which lead to his brutal death at the hands of Satou. Satou took over his apartment as her own castle and locked the room splattered with his blood on the wall, butchering his corpse and later on having it incinerated. His paintings can be seen at the back of the room, covered with a piece of fabric.
After meeting Shio, Satou stopped hanging out with guys and began taking on a part-time job in order to earn enough money to support Shio and herself.
Satou learns about a restaurant known as the Princess Imperial, and decides to work there. While there, Taiyō Mitsuboshi asks Satou out for a date only to be turned down. From there, it appeared as though Mitsuboshi quit the restaurant out of despair of having been rejected. When the employees get their checks, Satou notices that her check was short despite working more hours for the restaurant. While conversing with the Princess Imperial Manager, Satou notices her cabinet, realizing that Mitsuboshi was actually trapped in there. The manager explains to her that she had kidnapped Mitsuboshi because she overheard him say that he loved Satou instead of her. Enraged by this, she kidnapped Mitsuboshi, forcefully molesting him as her way of making him love her. Unfortunately for her, Satou filmed her confession on her phone and suggests that she leak the footage to the public lest she be given her due.
Shortly afterward, Satou returns to her high school where she is confronted by her teacher Daichi Kitaumekawa. After this, she discovers that he was following her and so leads him into an alleyway. When Daichi was trying to make advances on her, Satou activates her safety alarm, alerting residents and scaring her teacher off. The next day, she forces her teacher onto the ground and stomps on his crotch, manipulating him into helping her get rid of the garbage bags from the pantry under the threat of destroying his livelihood. Satou returns to her original job where she runs into Mitsuboshi. After he saves Asahi Kōbe from getting savagely beaten up by thugs, Asahi is taken to the back to recuperate. Alone with the young boy, Satou realizes that Asahi had connections with Shio when she overhears him reciting the «wedding» oath to himself. Fearing the worst, Satou grabs a crowbar and approaches him.

Later on in the manga, Satou’s friend, Shōko Hida finds Shio and takes a picture of her with her phone. Despite offering to hand over the phone to her, Satou slits her throat out of fear that she might go to the authorities about what she had discovered. However, unbeknownst to her, Shouko had managed to send the photo to Asahi prior. As Shouko was the only link that Satou had with the outside world, Satou became more unhinged. Realizing that her cover could potentially get blown, Satou convinces Shio to run away with her to some other location, hopefully a tropical island. The two then decide to actually become married and Satou buys rings for her and Shio.

After forging a pseudo wedding with Shio, Satou goes to her aunt’s and informs her about what she had done, and that she felt entitled for her aunt to assist her in her getaway because of her being «poisoned» by her aunt’s feelings on love. The plan is to gather several containers of gasoline, and set the room on fire. Satou would pass off Shouko’s body as her own, ergo faking her death. She dresses the corpse in her clothes, and mentally removes Shouko from her mind, destroying any lingering remorse that remained. She then tosses Shouko’s phone on a moving truck.
Satou tasks her aunt with burning the apartment building to the ground as a means of covering her tracks. Just when Satou was about to escape with Shio, she realizes that she left her ring at the apartment. While searching for it, the two are confronted by Asahi who is surprised to hear Shio proclaim that she was going to stay with Satou even after Asahi gave her the facts about what happened on the day their mother abandoned her in the streets. With no way off the roof, Shio and Satou opt to jump. As the two were plummeting, Satou shields Shio with her body and takes on the full blow, dying instantly.
Relationships
Shio Kōbe
Shio is Satou’s sugar love. They first met in an alleyway, shortly after Shio was abandoned by Shio’s mother. She is willing to do anything it takes to protect their happy sugar life. She keeps Shio shut in their «castle» and locks the door to prevent Shio from going out. She looks at her love for Shio to be sweet and genuine, unlike the bitter feeling she had only experienced prior. Satou loves Shio with all her heart, devoting herself to her part-time job and saving money by cooking in order to maintain her life with Shio. Satou also tries to make Shio happy by, for example, bringing her different types of cake. Although she jumped from the rooftop of a burning building and attempted suicide, she learned «true love» just before her death, died by protecting Shio, saying «I want Shio to live.»
Satō’s Aunt

Satou’s former best friend who often hung out and shared conversations with Satou. They were very important to one another. However, after betraying her trust by taking a while to answer if she still wants to be friends with Satou after she meets the aunt and eventually taking a picture of Satou and Shio, Satou slices her throat for taking a picture of her and Shio. Satou doesn’t dispose of the body, cleaning her up and dressing her in her own uniform, leaving her in the apartment to burn with the fire.
Asahi Kōbe

Satou believes Asahi to be the bane in her relationship with Shio and will do anything it takes to keep Asahi away from Shio. She nearly bashed his head in with a crowbar when she was alone with him at the café. Asahi holds a similar contempt for Satou, holding her responsible for breaking up his family and killing Shouko. The two come head to head at the end of the anime and manga as both parties fight and trying to get Shio away from the other, all while Asahi yells at her to give Shio back. They only stop fighting when Shio screams for Asahi to stop hurting Satou. After being rejected by Shio for the likes of Satou, the apartment collapses and that is the last that Asahi sees of the pair together. It is likely he holds hatred for Satou for destroying Shio’s state of mind in the end.
Taiyō Mitsuboshi

Sumire idolizes Satou and wants to be exactly like her, even in appearance. Satou had to lie to her that she loved her to make sure Sumire did not pry into her personal life again. Sumire falls for her senpai and is also the one who gives Satou and Shio her sister and her own passport so they can leave the country. Sumire appears to be mentally crushed upon hearing Satou’s death on television.

Её отец много выпивал и в промежутках этого избивал своих родных. Из-за этого девочке с мамой пришлось сбежать из дома, оставив там своего старшего брата. Шио — добрый и невинный ангелочек, всегда заботящийся о близких ей людях. Изначально она хочет починить «разбитый сосуд» матери, а позже отдать всю свою любовь Сато. Но и эта девочка не обходится без своих скелетов в шкафу. Когда она теряет память, в её голове часто возникают образы женщины, которые вводят её в заблуждение.
Тайё Мицубоши — один из тех типов людей, который после встречи с Сато кардинально изменился в характере. Изначально он был обычным работящим школьником, но после признания, относящегося к Сато и некоторых поступков менеджера Тайё, теряет здравый разум: он начинает бояться женских прикосновений и считает, что очистить его может только маленькая девочка. В нашем случае это Шио, да, в один момент он замечает листовку с ней и просто влюбляется в неё, считая ангелом.
Шоко Хида — лучшая подруга Сато Мацузаки. Стеснительная, рассудительная, является дочерью хорошей семьи, но это не мешает ей играть с парнями, как и когда-то Мацузаке. Очень сильно ценит дружбу с Сато, в момент, когда она чувствует, что с их отношениями что-то не так, делает очень отважные шаги, которые не каждая лучшая подруга может совершить.
Дайчи Китаумэкава является учителем средней школы, в которой учится Сато. Настолько привлекателен, что нравится почти всем ученицам. Хоть у него и есть семья, состоящая из жены и ребёнка, он всё равно начинает уделять должное внимание главное героине, всячески следит за ней, помогает, пытается дозвониться, но каждый раз ему никто не отвечает, из-за чего начинает подозревать Сато в убийстве своей тёти.
Асахи Кобэ — старший брат Шио Кобэ. Изначально жил вместе с семьей, но после побега матери с дочерью он остался наедине с безжалостным отцом. Асахи является терпеливым парнем, ведь ему пришлось перенести на себе много выходок отца. После пропажи Шио он стал единственным, кто начал искать её, расклеивая везде листовки. Асахи — скромный, любящий своих близких парень. За всю сюжетную линию в аниме он являлся тем персонажем, которому досталось больше всего, но он смог почти всё перебороть.
Тетя Сато. Как ни странно, она является опекуном Сато. Очень странная женщина со своими понятиями в плане любви. Она выполнит любое желание любимого, скорее всего, из-за этого она всегда покрыта бинтами. Но есть вероятность, что данные повязки нужны ей только для привлечения внимания к себе. Хоть поначалу и кажется, что ей всё равно на свою племянницу, ведь все комнаты грязные, да и вспомним наплевательское отношение к ней в детстве, но в конце эта женщина одобряет любовь Сато с Шио и даже пытается им помочь.
Очень редко встретишь реально интересные аниме в жанре психология, но этот тайтл как раз относится к таким. Раскрыли почти всех персонажей: их прошлое, психологическое состояние. Поначалу нелепая девичья любовь перерастает в очень искренние и душевные чувства, что тоже мне нравится. Но есть и один минус для меня — временами излишки жесткости со стороны Сато и перебор с психологическими отклонениями некоторых персонажей.
Конечно, это не шедевр, но потраченного времени стоит, по крайней мере, я не пожалела.

Shio cares for Satou deeply, but she often remains blissfully unaware of Satou’s endeavors aside from Satou’s necessary attendance in school and work, as she is not allowed outside of the apartment.

Appearance
Shio is an eight year old girl with black hair that is tied into two pigtails and has big blue eyes.
She usually wears a sailor-style school uniform which includes a light blue long-sleeve shirt, a striped blue bow tie, and a blue plaid skirt. Since Shio rarely ever goes outside, she is never seen wearing shoes but she wears black under-the-knee socks.
Personality
Shio is a kind, naïve and innocent little girl who doesn’t know many things. She tries her best to work hard and watch over the house while Satō Matsuzaka is away at school and work. She routinely greets Satou whenever she returns home and is always happy to spend time together with Satou. Shio believes that both she and Satou need to stay together, otherwise they would both be broken and incomplete forever.
While her interactions with other people besides Satou are limited, she still displays the same kindness and sincerity she would with Satou, which draws many people to her. She is typically referred to as an «angel», a «light», «the Moon», and other otherworldly symbols and beings, suggesting that her purity is a rare and enlightening trait of her personality that makes her almost ephemeral.
Background
Asahi and Yuuna promising to keep Shio safe
When Shio was born, Yūna Kōbe (Shio’s mother) felt sorry for her because she was born into a cruel world with her abusive father. However, Asahi Kōbe (Shio’s older brother) suggested to his mother that they should work hard to protect her, and Shio soon became a ray of hope for the two of them. At some point, Asahi urged his mother to run away with Shio and he would stay behind so that their father wouldn’t try to find them. He promised to return to his mother and Shio, and made a vow.
Eventually, Shio’s mother found a place for them to settle in, waiting until the day Asahi returned, but struggled to keep up with paying rent because of her inability to get a well-paying job. Shio noticed that her mother was slowly breaking apart and tried her best to cheer her up, however Shio’s attempts at comforting her mother were often futile, as her mother fluctuated between many emotional extremes due to her past and current circumstances. Because of her mother’s fear that her father would find them again, Shio’s mother forbade Shio from leaving the house and got angry whenever Shio disobeyed her, despite Shio’s intentions to help her mother feel better (such as going outside to pick a flower for her).
As her mother’s state was gradually diminishing waiting for Asahi to return so that they could be happy, Shio begged her mother to take her outside so that she could find something to help fix her, but almost got in a car accident because of it. Shio was immediately brought back home and was scolded for wanting to go outside. For the first time in her life, Shio’s mother slapped her, but quickly broke down due to the resemblance between her actions and her husband’s abuse.
Soon after that incident, Shio’s mother decided to take Shio outside again during a rainy night, and pushed Shio into an alleyway and left Shio by herself. It was at that moment that Shio encountered Satō Matsuzaka who then took her to The Painter’s apartment. There, the Painter attempts to strangle an unconscious Shio for his own selfish reasons but is killed by Satou instead. Shio noticed that Satou’s «jar was empty, but not broken» because she still believed in something, unlike her mother’s «jar», which Shio believed was broken. This caused Shio to forget everything that happened, and the reason is she has a hard time remembering her life before Satou.
Shio lived with Satou in their apartment and is often left alone for most of the day because of Satou’s school and work obligations. She is perfectly capable of leaving the apartment and does one night which results in her running into Taiyō Mitsuboshi and later having hallucinations of her mother’s figure in the park. After that incident, Satou installs a lock from the outside and does not leave again on her own will due to Satou telling her about the dangers of the outside world. She was blissfully unaware of the fact that Asahi is searching for her.
In the final episode of the anime and final chapter, she sustained minor injuries and ended up in the hospital after hugging Satō as well as pushing them both off the roof of the apartment with Satō (who died from the fall). After Satō’s death, Shio keeps Sato’s wedding ring and her hair ribbon as a memento to remember her by, she also claims that she has been reborn as Satō, much to Asahi’s horrific shock and believes that Satō will be reborn in the future.
Relationships
Shio cares for Satō and loves her but often remains unaware of Satou’s dark actions, since Satō doesn’t allow her outside of the apartment. While living with each other, Shio forgets her life before Satou, only having haunting hallucinations of her mother. It is not until Satou murders Shouko, that she demands Satou tell her everything so they figure it out together, which the latter does. She thinks of herself as Satou’s equal and wants to be treated as such, sharing the burden of all her problems so they can get through it together. Even when finding out about Sato’s evil deeds she stands by her and the two even have a makeshift fake wedding, saying their vows and exchanging rings. Shio is shown to proclaim her love for Satou just the same, stopping Asahi from hurting her during their face off. Her devotion to Satou is so strong that when her brother Asahi begs her to come back to their family, Shio rejects him and stays by Satou’s side. Right before they hit the ground after their suicide jump, Satou shields Shio from the impact, something that Shio is confused about once she wakes up. Shio refuses her brother to the very end and states her love exists only inside her where the memory of Satou is. She continued to think of Satou forever, holding her red ribbon and ring with care, suggesting that she inherited the madness.
Shio is her daughter, she regarded Shio as a more clingy child than Asahi but a sense of pureness to her soul (much like herself as a girl). Shio often saw visions of her mother when she was lost, causing her to delusion her mother’s figure over her shoulder.

After leaving Asahi and living in another apartment with Shio, she became more emotionally unstable. When Shio runs into the street on a visit outside, Yunna slaps her because she rebelled and has a flashback to being abused by her husband and her mind collapses. Feeling as she though she became what she hated the most, she decided that it would be best to leave Shio out in a crowded street. «I don’t need you anymore,» she told her, and left her all alone. After leaving Shio behind, she returned to her husband’s house, poisoned him, and muttered to Asahi who came to the apartment to pick himself up, saying «It’s too late», and she became a factor that makes him rush to search for Shio. After the death of Satou, she was standing alone outside the hospital where Shio was hospitalized.

Asahi is Shio’s older brother by eight years. Soon after she was born, Yuuna left her abusive husband with Shio to shield her from his rage and Asahi stayed behind to prevent their father from coming after them and would have joined them when it was safe. However due to the events that followed, Shio ends up missing after their mother abandons her. Asahi is frantic to find his little sister, putting up missing person posters everywhere. Asahi is shown to care about Shio very much and hates Satō Matsuzaka for taking her away from his family. He considers Shio’s smile the «moon» because it is bright and full of hope for the future. He believes Shio is the happiness that keeps their family together thus without it, he would have nothing to live for. When he confronts Shio and Satou, Asahi pleads with Shio to come home but Shio is still firm on staying with Satou. After the rejection, Asahi is shown to still care for his sister and is hopeful things can return to normal once Shio wakes up from coma but is once again rejected as Satou’s influence over Shio remains even in death.

Sometime after Shio escapes from the apartment room searching for Sato, she is met by Mitsuboshi. Realizing that this would probably be his only chance of being in proximity with Shio, who he believes can «purify» his soul, Mitsuboshi begs her to «kiss his boo boo and make it go away.» Shio is confused at first but then lightly pats him on the head a few times. This seemingly does the trick and Taiyou decides to bring her home with him so he can touch her but two thugs show up and begin to beat Taiyou up in front of Shio, which causes to hallucinate and pass out due to the brutal scene in front of her. Satou soon shows up and murders the thugs herself before taking Shio back home. This is the first and last direct interaction between them yet Taiyou is still shown to be obsessed with Shio cleansing him and collects missing flyers of her. In the anime ending credits, Taiyou is shown emotionless while looking at Shio’s missing person reports, broken at how he had failed to retrieve «his angel.»
