The BET Hip-Hop Awards are a fairly meaningless annual event, except for one thing: They’re where we get to see the Cyphers, the video series where a random assortment of rappers — some stars, some has-beens, some up-and-comers, some legacy figures, some complete unknowns — go in over the same rickety old-school beats. The 2016 Cyphers were nothing much to write home about, even though the Lil Wayne/Kevin Hart bit was fun. But as an institution, it’s always been consistently entertaining even when it’s been terrible.

The first BET Cypher, 10 years ago, featured Lupe Fiasco pretending to claw at Styles P’s face and Papoose rapping, “When we say ‘BET,’ we ain’t tryna spell ‘bet’ / Black Entertainment, Papoose is the best.” For a while, they made sure to include people rapping in foreign languages, which was always weird. I can never tell how they decided to group these people together, what they might have to do with one another, who might’ve said no. But in a week with no real big rap stories — I’d planned to write about the Swet Shop Boys album, but I couldn’t think of much to say beyond “it’s good, you should hear it” — I instead spent my Tuesday afternoon digging through the history of the Cypher, picking the 10 performances that left the deepest impression on me.

10. Nicki Minaj (2009)

Nicki was a known quantity at this point, but we were still collectively trying to figure out whether all her weird voices and accents were cool or annoying. (The “Monster” verse was still a year away.) But this vicious drama-nerd attack made a strong case for its power, and she definitely made all the other dudes in her Cypher sound crustier than they already were.

9. Kanye West (2010)

We don’t tend to think of West as a great pure rapper, but he came with more force and personality than anyone else in his G.O.O.D. Music crew Cypher, debuted his “too many Urkels” line, and turned what could’ve been a throwaway performance (in the midst of an otherworldly hot streak) into an intense and emotionally driven showcase.

8. Vince Staples (2015)

One of the great things about Staples is the way he can participate in a dog-and-pony show like this — how he can kill it — while at the same time seeming absolutely contemptuous of it. When other rappers are rapping, he doesn’t cheerlead; he just stands stock-still and stares holes in the backs of their heads. I love how he kept rapping after the beat dropped out here, and how he made Raury look like a tiny and helpless little baby. (Watch it here.)

7. Eminem (2009)

Em’s performance at his 2011 Shady Records Cypher was probably better than this, and Black Thought probably honestly outrapped him in this Cypher. This has all the shitty excesses of latter-day Eminem: The wordplay for the sake of it, the twitchy delivery, the rape joke that wasn’t funny at the time and has just become more cringeworthy in the years since. But what stirs me about this one is the crowd. Eminem had been missing in action for a few years at that point, and you can just hear how excited they are to have him back, how they’re willing him to return to greatness. It’s not just a “hey, look, a famous person” reaction. It’s a “please come back, we need you” reaction. And for good or ill, he really did come back after that. I think the Cypher, and its reaction, might’ve had a lot to do with that.

6. Kendrick Lamar (2012)

In a circle full of West Coast legends (and a baby YG), Kendrick went all stuttery nonchalant motormouth, giving a head-spinning technical display that still seems a lot more sleepy and conversational than Kendrick’s other Cypher performances. (Watch it here.)

5. E-40 (2012)

The only man ever to outrap Kendrick Lamar in one of these things, 40 Water does his irrepressible, inimitable fast-rapping goofball thing. It’s a style that still hasn’t gotten old after a quarter of a century. (Watch it here.)

4. Royce Da 5’9″ (2011)

The 2012 Eminem/Slaughterhouse/Yelawolf Cypher, which lasted a ridiculous 10 minutes, was probably the most all-out insane technical-rapping display in Cypher history. But there’s a joylessness to a lot of it, and Royce, one of the best pure rappers in the group, still got by on charm and silliness. He turned “hi, Rihanna” into a catchphrase, the only time anyone’s managed to make one of those things happen during a Cypher.

3. Kendrick Lamar (2011)

In a Cypher full of young try-hards, Kendrick seems to rap in a voice that’s bubbling up from somewhere deep in his subconscious — going into a trancelike state, speaking in tongues, making weird noises, barely ever looking up long enough to make eye contact with the camera lens. Anyone who saw this immediately knew that Kendrick was something special, and this was right after Section.80, when most of us were still figuring that out. It was downright cruel to make B.o.B. rap after this.

2. Juelz Santana, Fabolous, & Jadakiss (2008)

It’s pointless to pick a winner among these three, even though Fab might get a slight edge for that of-the-moment Sarah Palin line. They were all needling and pushing each other, existing on some goofy-fun New York goon level that they only occasionally hit on their respective solo records. This Cypher was one of my favorite songs of that fall, and I watched this grainy-ass YouTube video more times than I care to admit. Also, Ace Hood was there.

I like the Beatles, they’re not my favourite band though but without a doubt they deserve the number one spot. The impact they had on the world, creativity, the influence they had and still have 50+ years later, pretty much every after them has been influenced by the Beatles or at least respected them

Without any doubt they are the greatest of all tiem and I don’t think that will ever change throughout the years, no other band can compare to them, they are simply the definition of genius composing and legendary.

This band is just the greatest of all time! Although they weren’t the most talented group ever, they maximized the talent they did have to create something beautiful. John and Paul are one of, if not the best, songwriting duos of all time. They contrasted each other so much, but it didn’t stop them from making great collaborations. They were both great as solo artists, but never reached the heights they made as a group. Also, they were the most successful band to transcend the genre of music they started off as. They went from a great «rock band» to an amazing band, period. Lastly, people of all ages enjoy their music, young and old. You can’t say that about every band/artist out there. It makes them that much more lovable since more they appeal to a much wider audience.

All of the bands on this list are amazing but I think Queen is a little better. All the band members were so different but they all went together. Queen always has music to offer for every one of your moods and they never disappoint. I can’t think of one song of theirs that was even just a little bit bad. Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor, Brian May, and John Deacon felt so connected with the audience. I’ve never been to one of their concerts and I wasn’t even alive when they performed but even when I watch videos of their concerts it feels as if I’m there. I haven’t watched Bohemian Rhapsody and I’m still in love with Queen. This just goes to show that people nowadays don’t only love Queen because of the movies. Again, all the bands on this list are amazing and have so much to offer but in my opinion, Queen has just a bit more.

You can’t even consider the Beatles as a band. They are all just pop. Queen, on the other hand, is the best band of all time.They have so many great songs. «We Are the Champions» is very inspirational, while «We Will Rock You» gets you pumped up! And don’t get me started about «Bohemian Rhapsody». That song is a masterpiece. And it is rated ON THIS WEBSITE as the best song of all time. Freddie Mercury, again, ON THIS WEBSITE, has been at first place on lists «Best Singers of All Time» and Most Unique Voices». So why aren’t they at the top? I’ll tell you why. The Beatles are the most OVERRATED bunch of posers ever. Queen should be at the top and no one can tell me otherwise.

Obviously the Beatles is at number 1. I’m not going to try and change that, they deserve all of the hype they get, they are probably 1 of if not the most talented and original songwriters of all time.

They are so unpredictable, so iconic, so recognizable and just so strangely addictive that it hurts.

Queen is a band that makes you feel how a bend should make you feel: whatever you want. Their songs can be happy, sad, angry, really whatever you want them to be.

Queen is, in my opinion, the greatest band that will ever exist.

I’m voting Zeppelin above the two bands above them, Queen and The Beatles based on the fact that they proved themselves to be incredibly capable both in the studio and more importantly, live (unlike The Beatles, who were mainly a studio band), and because each member was equally important to the sound of the band, unlike Queen, who had most of the attention focused on Freddie Mercury. Zeppelin were so good because of the incredible interplay between John Bonham and John Paul Jones (just look at Dazed and Confused live), the soaring vocals of Robert Plant the the otherwordly guitar skills of Jimmy Page, who exceeded as both a rhythm player, a great ‘feel’ lead player and a crazy shredder. But if one of those sections was removed, the whole band would have fallen apart, as they did after Bonham’s death. It is for these reasons that I vote Led Zeppelin as the greatest band ever.

It always surprises me when I hear about how great the Beatles were, after all since I could talk I was groomed to think this, and then I found Led Zeppelin. I’ve looked at all the supposed greatest bands of all time and I still love Zeppelin. In terms of lyrical value, Zeppelin isn’t as good, same goes for vocals, at times. But lyrics aren’t as important, you can feel so much more from amazing instrumental work. Listen to the the Beatle’s highest praised songs and Zeppelin has multiple ones that beat them anyday. Also, I love both bands, but its very clear who takes what category.

So, Led Zeppelin is number 3? Makes no sense. Easily the best band of all time. They are the most inspirational band of all time and revolutionized rock music forever. Stairway to Heaven is the best song of all time, Led Zeppelin- Phyiscal Graffiti are some of the best albums of all time. So many timeless songs/ albums. It’s a crime that they are number three.

Best band ever. NO question. John Bonham- best drummer ever, Jimmy page- best guitarists ever, Robert plant- (in my opinion) the best singer ever, John Paul Jones- one of the best bassists ever. Stairway to Heaven- best song ever! Case closed

The thing about Pink Floyd in my eyes, beyond the fact that they made killer songs individually, is that they absolutely mastered the concept album. Most of that was Roger Waters, but still.

Name any other band that not only had four albums released in six years, but also hadall of those four albums be considered some of the greatest albums ever made. You don’t see it happen anywhere else. You just don’t.

Other bands may have more songs that work on their own, and not just in the context of the album, but I have found very little music in any genre that is as powerful and meaningful while still being relevant today, even though the band has been around for over fifty years.

This is without a doubt the best band in my opinion. Seems like they actually take more time to make amazing music for their fans. And their albums are all unique and all the songs in the albums are unique. There is no other band like Pink Floyd. I’m confused why Queen is above Pink Floyd. While Queen is amazing with masterpiece songs that are iconic, I don’t see them being above Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, the Beatles, heck even Black Sabbath is above them in my opinion. I agree Beatles are number 1 but Pink Floyd definitely deserves number 2. Only band that’s close is Led Zeppelin, otherwise Pink Floyd absolutely trashed other bands.

I think Pink Floyd is the best rock band in the world. In addition to the amazing soundscapes that are on all of Pinks Floyd’s albums, it is also because they create the most coherent concept albums.
I confess that my opinion is colored by the fact that I listen most to symphonic and progressive rock music. I love music where you are emotionally dragged around the mane, first by quiet passages where you get choked on the cheek- then suddenly you are knocked to the ground by hard hitting passages. it’s typically Pink Floyd.

Better than the Beatles, but with less main stream pop. Smarter and more Real than Led Zeppelin. I’ll always love them more than Metallic, AC/D3, and Metallica (most mainstream metal is unlistenable or just badd). Now I have to give them the vote. They are rock by definition: like soul music sped up or like blues and jazz but with a more modernized fast rage.
I’ll always love the truest rock band ever made.

Explain to me why Metallica is higher then Rolling Stones, these guys are second best, other then the Beatles, the stones are awesome, Queen wasnt even even that popular for its time, suck it up. This list is a joke! Even Paul McCartney has that The Stones are the best! These other groups wouldn’t exist if not for the stones! Of the bands on this list, the Stones and Zeppelin are the best. The Beatles were too poppy, then too psycodelic. Queen was a very good band but got bigger after Mercury’s death, same goes with Nirvana with cobain. Neither are worthy of top 5 status.

Metallica are the best band ever. Just listen to their discography. Even their weakest albums like St. Anger or Reload are great to me, they are a big inspiration and they got me into Heavy Metal music. When I first heard Master Of Puppets I was blown away by their sound. They are not the fastest band, heaviest or even most complex, but their songs are so well structured that they albums are very memorable and iconic, specially their first 5. To me, Ride The Lightning or Justice are their best, and one of the greatest Metal records of all time. Amazing band.

Greatest band ever. Their music is spellbinding (they created some of the greatest musical works ever) and they have never ceased to amaze me. I never listened to St. Anger or Lulu but I heard songs from the rest of their albums and I never disliked a single one (even from their newer stuff, which is on par with their older stuff). Metallica is amazing and I think they are much better than bands like the Beatles (incredibly overrated and pretty generic, I have a friend who loves them though), Led Zeppelin (the singer’s voice is aggravating), and even Queen even though Queen is great. Long live the metal/some of the music kings. People who don’t know them (I.e. pretty much every kid in every school I went to) need to hear them. They are masters of puppets (😜, also the second greatest song of all time) and masters of music.

As a band they have done it all, ground-breaking sound when they first came out, become the king of their genre, break into the mainstream, experimenting with their sound and facing their inner problem, and now coming out strong and kicking ass. Few band reach this far

Yes I may be a teenager but my opinion still matters. Kurt Donald cobain is one of the major influences of my life. Kurt said that people read to much in his music and try’s to make it what it is not, but true nirvana fans do not have to have an explanation on what certain things in his music meant we just know that when we listen to it we are at home and have a place to fit in.

You could say The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are true figures in Rock. but Nirvana not only showed people the good in this rebellion of Music, but it really showed heart realism and passion yes Queen and Zeppelin shows powerful and loud music, but Nirvana was one of the first bands to deal with personal problems and sadness depression, it’s not for everyone, but everyone should at least know and respect this band

I’d say that nirvana should be higher because of their skill to make so many hit songs with unfortunately such short time. Although some of their songs are not complex, the music is terrific, plus they basically jump started grunge. The most impactful point is how ever since they’ve come out, people of all ages know and listen to them. Lastly they created the best rock song of all time, Smells Like Teen Spirit.

I am not going to state their influence, but I will say that Nevermind and In-Utero are both albums I can listen to front to back without skipping any tracks, no filler whatsoever.

Bleach is a great straight forward grunge album, filled with punky/thrash three chord songs, while not as well structured as their major label LP’s it’s still worth a listen.

Green day, they are the back talking anarchy type of band. To me they are the definition of rebellious teenagers. They are also one of the most rebellious bands to have come around so far. And they are the band to turn to when you either want to cry, or just be alone and say f the world. And we all seem to love it and always will.

Green Day is a FANTASTIC band. I don’t know why it is number twelve. I mean I guess I would think the people voting voting on this website would say so considering you think Ariana Grande and Michael Jackson are considered bad singers.

Baba o reily, my generation, I can see for miles, pinball wizard. These songs are all legendary rock songs and are made by one of the best bands in the world. The who. They even Inspired back mason, drummer of Pink Floyd to start learning drums. That’s how good they are.

The Who should be in the Top 10 in my opinion.
A list of the greatest rock bands without The Who in it is like a trial without evidence!

Why, why, why are they so underrated? They are not even too well known nowadays. Their music was just as perfect as any other band. I think Guns N’ Roses gets more praise than this fantastic band, but, Guns N’ Roses only had one amazing album, and a couple of great songs. The Beach Boys at least had a hit or three on every album. Even their filler songs are great! There’s Pet Sounds, Today!, Summer Days and Summer Nights, All Summer Long, Surfin’ U.S.A, true rock albums. I am proud to be a Beach Boys fan, just to know their story and their music makes me such a genius in music. They would be second or third for me.

How these guys aren’t in the top 5 blows my mind. They are the reason the Beatles music got even better and it took all 4 Beatles to match the genius of Brian Wilson! Not to mention that SO many hits were done in such a short time until Brian had his breakdown because people weren’t ready for his genius. Pet sounds #2 best album ever. in my opinion #1. Just imagine if Brian made more albums.

Probably the best harmonies in songs, they might be at the level of The Beatles. In fact, Pet Sounds did influence the recording of Sgt. Pepper’s.

The Beach Boys were an American version of The Beatles. Thought they started out as just a small pop band with simple sounds, they soon became creators of some the most iconic songs ever like «Good Vibrations» and «God Only Knows». I believe that people will listen to the psychedelic masterpiece like Pet sounds for a long time.

What is AC/DC doing here? Last time I checked they were 5. I’d make them 1 if it was my website. There music just gets you pumped up and in the rock and roll mood. AC/DC FOREVER!

Iron Maiden is not only the greatest metal band of all time, but the greatest band period! No other group has put out so many good albums, have so many amazing songs, and are so incredible live! If you have never experienced Maiden, do yourself a favour and listen to their incredible catalogue of music. You will not be disappointed! Up the Irons!

Iron Maiden rules! My favorite band of all time ever since I discovered them at age 16. I needed tp find something that sounded like Dio, especially from the album Heaven and Hell by Black although I was also super into Holy Diver and other DIo albums of that time period. I found Iron Maiden and was even more impressed and found myself loving them more than any other band.

These kings are amazing and my third favorite band of all time. Their songs are amazing and few (like two people) are better singers than Bruce Dickinson! I also want to fly in their plane because Bruce is also a licensed pilot.

Easily the most influential prog band, neil peart is insane, geddy lee is insane, alex lifeson is extremely underrated and incredibly talented, none of these other bands aside from led zep can merely comprehend and capture the skill and heart that goes into each of their songs. one of very few bands to keep the same lineup for over 40 years.

It’s not just Neil Peart that gets all the credit: the amazing solos by Lifeson, and the incredible talents by Lee.

Moving pictures is my second favorite album of all time, and YYZ is the best instrumental ever.

How is it possible to Tokio Hotel to be in 2nd Place? For God’s Sake, Guns N’ Roses are without any doubt the best band ever! Everyone knows Sweet Child O’Mine and November Rain, not to mention Welcome To The Jungle. Every time I hear Slash’s solos, I go to heaven.

Guns and roses, hm hard to explain. They give you a sense of what was and is to come although they are no longer together they will forever continue to enrich people’s lives.

It’s infuriating to see the who, nirvana and the beach boys ahead of gnr. They should be in first.

U2 consistently has the highest grossing and largest sold out arena world tours every time the put out an album. Their zooropa tour in the 90’s was massive and was the third largest behind the rolling stones just based on gross receipts. To say that they are not in the top 5 biggest bands of all time (yes this includes the 80’s and 90’s) is just ridiculous.

Rarely does a group combine artistry and politics as gracefully as U2. Certainly not all 50+ groups that are ahead of this one. U2 will always be listened to and always respected.

Linkin Parks sound and lyrics are very powerful. It reflects the genuineness of not only their own experiences, but their audiences as well. I love Imagine Dragons, they’ve been my favorite band for over a year. Their lyrics are relatively deep and the music is catchy. However, I don’t think they deserve to be in this list, not even if they kept the same sound and meaningful lyrics of their first two albums.

Best Rock Bands of All Time

Rock and roll is a genre of music that emerged as a defined musical style in the American South in the 1950s, and quickly spread to the rest of the country, and the world. It later evolved into the various different sub-genres of what is now called simply «rock».

This list is a collection of the top ten rock bands of all time. This includes bands that can be categorized as rock and roll, hard rock, southern rock, metal, punk and just about any other genre that has evolved from 50’s rock and roll.

People call Led Zeppelin thieves, and whatever else they feel like calling the greatest band of all time just for the sake of saying it. But truthfully, it was made from the four greatest musicians in their respective areas, with songs all the way from the grit of Whole Lotta Love to the passion and melody of Stairway to Heaven and the reggae-style groove of D’yer Mak’er (Super underrated song by the way). They did everything and more to get to the legend status they have now and they bloody well deserve it.

Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones, and the late John Bonham. Led Zeppelin; four individuals from differing backgrounds with diverse personalities and creativity came together composing, producing, and performing music without limits.

They are legendary and formed the backbone of what «hard rock» is defined as today. Jimmy Page was and still is the heart and soul of Led Zeppelin. They deserve their rightful place as the number one rock band of all time.

Led Zeppelin, the true Hard Rock originals placed at No.2! Sort of pains me. It should be in number 1 slot. And Metallica doesn’t deserve that number 1 position. I have heard Queen, Guns N Roses, Black Sabbath, The Who, Beatles, AC/DC, Metallica but none have that understated elegance in Rock Music, perfect tunes, great Guitar riffs, fantastic drums and of-course the lyrics. I have been a fan of all above mentioned Rock Bands at various times but finally getting hold of many Led Zeppelin albums made me an honest fan of them. Also at times I feel embarrassed that all these years I had been listening to average to run-of-the-mill rock songs (My Pre-Led Zeppelin years).

I’ve heard the Beatles multiple times, heard other people play covers, and seen that they are considered the «best rock band in the world» by the internet and many many others. But in my opinion, I think that’s unaccurate as hell. The Beatles suck! For example, their song, «lucy in the sky with diamonds». I can admit, yes, their lyrics to that song are unique, just like almost every other song they played, but being considered the best rock band in the world because of it? I disagree completely. There are other bands like queen, ac/dc and much more who actually deserve to be considered better than this crappy band.

It seems I was born in the wrong generation, because I see that Metallica is the first. The Beatles is a legend, unbelievable phenomenon in the music history.

The Beatles were indescribable. The lyricism and singing of John Lennon and Paul McCartney with the drumming of Ringo and George’s guitar skills still give me goosebumps and always will. Legends with no other title.

The Beatles has some of the greatest songs I have ever heard and that’s about it. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr did an amazing job with there songs.

Queen reinvented music. There is no other way to put it. They changed what you can do with a rock song and created an anthem, a ballad and a statement in one six-minute song. Not to mention, John Deacon was incredible at bass, Roger Taylor was insane, Brian May will go down as a guitar god and Freddie Mercury. His voice gives me goosebumps. They will never be forgotten, truly.

It can’t be called easy music and not everyone will like it, but it’s hard not to appreciate Waters’ beautiful lyrics, Gilmour’s brilliant solos, Wright’s wonderful keyboards and Mason’s mesmerizing drums. It is incredibly reflective music, albums such as Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, Animals are masterpieces. Besides, I’m one of the few people who love their second album Saucerful of Secrets, it has an amazing psychedelic depth.

I honestly think Pink Floyd should be at number one. The combination of Waters concepts and lyrics and Gilmours guitar/vocals (as well as the fine musicianship of Rick Wright and Nick Mason)produced a force that generates Pink Floyd addicts to this very day.

I recently saw someone write «Pink Floyd has never written a bad song. There may be a weak song, or a song that requires thought to understand, but never a bad song». I agree with this 100%. This is one of the few bands that has never released a ‘filler’ album.

Pink Floyd being so low down is a disgrace to music. This band’s been there right through the ages where there was no MTV, no internet publicity and still it survives. The band may no longer be active, but their songs still are what they were meant to be. Is there anyone out there who can say Comfortably Numb doesn’t give them a high? Or that Wish You Were Here doesn’t remind them of someone lost?
Floyd were way ahead of their age, maybe of this age too. Water’s concepts and lyrics, Gilmour’s musical experimentation, Mason’s technicality, all held together be Wright’s subtle tones, the concept arts and of course the pure psychedelic oblivion derived for which no drug is needed. Do they make music like this anymore?
They MAY not be the «best ever». But #16? Preposterous!

What makes Pink Floyd stand out from the others is that their albums all have a unique style and that they’re not afraid to experiment with different sounds (even sampling some recordings to enhance the listening experience). Their albums interconnect most of the songs with one another and creates a sense of unity. Pink Floyd’s music is full of soul and emotion that few can match.

Metallica opened my world. Metallica opened my eyes. Metallica opened my ears.

Metallica released my soul. Metallica are the best metal band that will be playing in the whole universe. Great performers!

Metallica came out with a album ( Kill em all ) with a style and crunch no band had at the time, also in Co-made with dave mustaine on 3 songs. Ride the lightning, Master of puppets. And justice for all and Black album. 5 classic albums, And all the songs on those records was great, and some of them even greater! In a historical standpoint, they deserve what they had coming. And today they deserve a reward for keep on going strong, with james broken voice, that kinda get worse! And they have made more then a impression since everyone has a open heart to them still. So many changes, so many heart broken! No one in the world have more trusted die hard fans!

Don’t respect Beatles. They were just untalented young men that created just simple but extremely boring tracks. Not to talk about Paul McCartney. Really bad vocalist. Hey Jude and yesterday proved that he had never taken singing lessons. Should have heard and learnt from Elvis Presley.
And Metallica was just great. I mean, can anyone think of that solo in thing that should not be. No guitarist in the world could have created that awesome solo. Listen to while my guitar and solo how badly that was played.
Metallica’s career is just monumental. And songs like One and Welcome Home easily prove that.

Everybody says that AC/DC songs sound the same. There is an entirely valid reason for this staple of Australian pub rock to not change their formula through the years. After the death of their frontman, Bon Scott, they decided to keep his dream going, rather than break up because of the grief, like Led Zeppelin did that very same year (No hate on Led Zeppelin). They didn’t change for the sake of keeping him alive in a way, and if they changed their style like Linkin Park did after the death of Chester, then Bon’s remembrance would have disappeared. These guys are awesome.

As far as wider hard rock category, I’d say they share number one spot with Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. The Beatles I’m sorry to say trails. Metallica is not even top ten. What are they talking about? Accept, Iron Maiden are definitely higher than Metallica.

Here is a fact. They can’t ALL be in the top ten. Admittedly some shouldn’t be in the top ten or are too high up in this list. Only ones that should be there are Led Zeppelin and The Beatles. Metallica at number one? The only good albums they’ve made are «Kill ‘Em All», «Ride The Lightening». That is IT. The Rolling Stones have made like forty which are all decent and most of them are brilliant.

Rush should be here also. And they are. Maybe they should be higher, but you can’t have EVERYBODY in the top ten.

Where on earth are Black Sabbath? Although they started off as a twelve bar blues band, they INVENTED heavy metal and Tony Iommi is a metal god. Without them there would be no Metallica! 47th Black Sabbath are.
The Who at 38? Tool at 43? Porcupine Tree not even here at all? Dream Theater not here? Cream so low down?

The best rock band of all time is The Rolling Stones, no doubt. When you listen to them you can hear how their songs sound like something else from the newer generations because every rock band have taken inspiration from them. Led Zeppelin is number 1 on this list and that’s wrong. The most successful HARD rock band is Led Zeppelin, but it’s not the best rock band, so if you are wise, don’t vote Metallica or Led Zeppelin, and especially not something like Linkin Park. My favorite rock band is Cream, but I had to vote Rolling Stones because they deserve to be #1 and everything else is a crime.

Who the heck is tokio hotel? Why isn’t nirvana in the top ten? They changed music forever! How is a band like Ah-ha or X Japan ahead of nirvana! I’ve never even heard of them! Nirvana should of cracked the top ten at least! This list is rigged! Metallica number 1? They’re a really good band but number one maybe a bit much. I think the beatles should’ve made it number 1

The best way to know how amazing your band is, is by seeing how much you have influenced others. Bands and fans. That is why Nirvana is so important! Every single alternative rock band or any of its subgenres took cues from Nirvana. You hear all these bands and you hear that Nirvana influenced them. The punk energy, the angry nihilistic lyrics, the garage style production etc. And the fans truly connected either it. Nirvana created a generation of teenagers and young adults that set forth to fight the establishment and learn that it’s ok to be messed up because there were 3 guys just as messed up like you. Like Kurt Cobain, Nirvana WILL live on forever!

This list is so close to being almost perfect. Nirvana is a great band, and should be way ahead of Linkin Park and AC/DC. Maybe even Guns ‘n’ Roses. But still, Nirvana changed rock and roll completely, my friend. Kurt Cobain added an entirely different sound to vocals, that increased the intensity of their music by a crap ton. Dave Grohl’s drumming was also some of the best ever seen by man, and he still rocks on. And then of course, there’s Krist, the guy that doesn’t really get credit for anything, even though he was the one that made the band who they are, just flat out amazing. It’s sad to see these guys at #10.

Sometimes I’ll hear TOMMY, LIVE AT LEEDS, WHO’S NEXT, or QUADROPHENIA and think, «Yeah, this is one of the greatest bands of all time.» Roger Daltrey is one of my favorite rock singers, John Entwistle one of my favorite bass players, Keith Moon is so wonderfully insane, and Pete Townshend might be one of the best rhythm guitar players in rock and was the musical genius behind these great rock-operas. We think of The Who as some bombastic band who destroyed their instruments after playing «My Generation,» but in fact, a lot of their later work was quite thought-provoking. «Bargain» is probably one of the best examples of that, beautiful song with great lyrics: «In life, one and one don’t make two, one and one make one.» But man, when they rock hard, they rock REALLY HARD!

They are still a legend today with amazing songs that are still listened to and enjoyed by all ages. They explored so many different styles, and likewise Pete’s guitar work was like no other, though he, due to the style of their music, was not able to show off like some others of his time, wasn’t able to hold ten minute solos he still accomplished wonderful riffs and great beats that had the perfect balance of simplicity and complexity. Likewise he was the first person to smash a guitar, something that many other great guitarists have done on stage, that trend was set by Pete, and he and Roger just closed the Olympics, how’s that for longevity.

This band has been around since the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and is definitely a major force in rock.

From classics such as Baba O’Reily, Won’t Get Fooled again, My Generation, Magic Bus, My Wife. The list can go on! Besides that they have made two rock operas (Tommy and Quadrophenia) which are masterpieces on their own.

Also, the members of the band are LEGENDS. Pete Townshend, one of rock’s greatest guitarist and composer of the majority of their songs? Roger Daltrey, who is known for his soulful voice that is still wailing during their concerts? Keith Moon, the Moon on the Loon, a drummer who was ahead of his time? And even John Entwistle, arguably the greatest bass player EVER?

They were (and still are) revolutionaries in music, so they deserve a higher spot. You won’t regret it.

A lot of good bands on here but the genius of Pete Townshend made/makes The Who the best. Check out an often overlooked Quadrophenia album. Who can ever forget the drumming of Kieth Moon? The bass of Entwistle and the See Me Feel Me voice of Daltery. What a band! I agree there never has been a better live album than Live At Leeds as the band was so tight for those shows. At their peek back then. Oh and those jump suits Pete wore. Anyone who likes the who should search engine Pete Townshend and listen to his solo stuff as there are some real treasures to be found. They should be higher up but I don’t think they really tried to be at the top as they never sold out back then like some others did. Rest in peace Kieth and John!

Ever since I’ve first heard paradise city my life has changed in a way I can’t explain. Everything fits in a perfect way to form the most badass band planet you could never recreate. The way Axl’s voice slithers from the microphone makes the best damn frontman on the planet, Slash can create magic with a Les Paul, Duff has the most unique and rock n’ roll bass tone and voice, Izzy’s heart and soul made the band unique and his song writing is quite honestly amazing and Stevie tops the band off with songs like Rocket Queen and Mama Kin that blow your mind. If someone asked me what my dream band would be it would be these five guys that changed my life forever and I can never thank them enough for that. Thanks guys.

No one quite has the range that Guns N’ Roses had. Sure, they’re most known for being the original bad boys of rock with riots and no shows peppering their tours. But they have the largest range out of any of the «greats». From Welcome to the Jungle and Rocket Queen, to Patience and November Rain. They can play anywhere from acoustic to hand banging hard rock. Add to that Axl Roses being one of, if not, the most entertaining lead (next to maybe Fredie Mercury) and the incredibly seamless yet absolutely mental hard-rock/blues guitar riffs from Slash and you have the best rock band of all time.

If you want to define «great» as «most influential», then by all means give the title to the Beatles, Pink Floyd or Zeppelin. But in terms of music that is both emotional charged, complex, and at times, range-inducing, then no one can touch Guns.

Guns N’Roses are the greatest Rock N’Roll band of all time for 10 reasons-

1. They are made up of the Greatest Vocalist of all time, two of the greatest guitarists of all time, the best bass player in the world and the most awesome drummer ever. And when these five men played together, the earth stopped moving and everyone stared in awe.
2. Their songs are awesome.
3. Every song they sing/play is genius.
4. They changed the Rock N’ Roll industry forever.
5. You can listen to their songs over and over again without wanting to stop.
6. Anyone who listens to them instantly becomes a fan.
7. Their music is addicting to listen to.
8. They can change people’s lives with their music (they changed mine).
9. THEY’RE JUST AMAZING.
10. Axl Rose is fit.

This band is a rock legend they made music that you can understand and it understands you, their songs have this meaning that everyone will find different along their own path of life. This band of corse had its ups and downs, and yes not all of their songs will be to your liking but I am 100 % sure that you will be hooked on them after you listen closely and after you collaborate, you will get attached fast enough. And come on they clearly win some points for having the best guitarist of all time, SLUSH! I mean did you not hear him play, not to mention his absolute cool hair and hat!

The Newcomers

The list system on this site provides the same dilemma as the the MLB all-star game. People who know nothing about music are free to vote for their pop bands like 30 Seconds to Mars and have their votes drag down great bands like Sabbath.

But Sabbath isn’t just a great band. They CREATED metal. Paranoid was one of the most influential metal albums of all time. Songs off of that album (and their self-titled effort) like War Pigs, Iron Man, and Paranoid laid the foundation for metal music. As much as I love Iron Maiden, Sabbath played a much more important role in creating metal. Ever since metal was forged in the early 70s, its bands have been following Sabbath’s model.

Black sabbath should definitely be at the top. Had it not been for black sabbath there would be no avenged sevenfold or Green Day or the red hot chili peppers or nirvana. Black sabbath influenced both metal and punk bands like black flag, the Melvin’s, pantera etc. that went on to influence rhcp, avenged sevenfold, Green Day, and nirvana. The misfits should definitely before Green Day. And pantera should definitely be above avenged sevenfold along with megadeth, anthrax and iron maiden. Don’t get me wrong avenged sevenfold kicks ass but it should be at least below these bands next to system of a down. Green Day is a disgrace to punk rock I can list off more than 30 punk bands right now that deserve to be on this more than Green Day.

17? Are you kidding me? Black Sabbath is my absolute favorite band, no doubt. Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, and last but most certainly not least, Ozzy Osbourne. I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve been listening to their music literally my whole life, but I love them. Even though I had my doubts about the «13» album, I liked that too. Ozzy’s solo career couldn’t have gone better either. How could you possibly rank 30 Seconds To Mars and Green Day higher than Black Sabbath? I get that they attract the younger crowd, but Black Sabbath is legendary. Black Sabbath is the real deal.

Black Sabbath/Led Zeppelin. You can argue which should be #1 & #2 between them, but there’s no argument about them holding the top two spots. Plant/Page/Jones/Bonham were a force which had never been seen before or since. Osborne/Iommi/Butler/Ward arguably invented heavy metal. Any guitar riff you’ve heard since, was most likely originally done by Tony Iommi. And as an aside, anyone who voted for Nirvana on this list is a fool, Grunge, & those who promoted it, were the reason for Rock’s downfall, & why (C)Rap is now more popular for the first time in history.

Okay. I bet half the people here voted for bands they’ve heard of or because of a song they heard by a band. Seriously, listen to Rush. They’ve been around since 1973 and have always been a 3 piece band. Since 1973, they’ve released 19 albums, all are Gold or higher. Every album has at least one or two hits that most people recognize. They started out with hard rock then moved to progressive, and that change was amazing. With Neil Peart smacking the drums and writing science fiction-like vocals, Geddy Lee slapping the bass, hitting those extremely high notes and playing the keyboards and Alex Lifeson shredding on guitar, the music doesn’t get better than that.

Neil Peart is an amazing drummer. There’s not one beat that he can’t keep. He uses every piece of his drum kit to make music and his arms and legs always seem to be moving. Aside from that, he makes most of the lyrics for the band. You can thank him for that.

Rush are simply the greatest band of all time. Neil Peart, one of (if not the most) technically gifted drummers of all time, as well as one of the most intelligent lyricists of all time. Geddy Lee, how he performs those insane bass lines whilst singing and playing the keyboards (whilst simultaneously uses synth pedals) all at the same time is beyond me. He’s superhuman! And Alex Lifeson! One of the most diverse guitarists on this planet. I’ve never heard anyone play as many different styles as easily as he makes it look.

It’s really inexcusable that Rush is this low on the list. It still intrigues me to this day that a band with only three members can produce songs and albums with music that is so diverse and so full of different musical elements going on at once. Go listen to The Spirit of Radio, La Villa Strangiato, or Subdivisions, and tell me that this band does not put 100 % effort into creating music that is creative and different from album to album. That alone, that Rush can continually redefine themselves from album to album, and still kick ass, is enough to put them higher in that respect. Lifeson and Lee compliment each other great on the guitar and the bass, and Peart’s complex drumming rhythms keep the listener guessing as to where the song is going next.

The fact that Rush isn’t at least in the top 5 shows that this list isn’t serious.
Come one you kids voting for Queen and Nirvana, listen to any Rush album.
Geddy Lee and NEIL PEART do things that. well. are not supposed to be possible.
Rush is a band with peak technique and complexity which I don’t think can be matched by any band, ever. Seriously, listen to YYZ. Don’t forget Alex Lifeson, an absolute melody black-smith. They specialized in MULTIPLE genres. Seriously Neil Peart alone in a band would be enough to be top 5. Rush is like if you put Johann Sebastian Bach, Ludwig Van Beethoven and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a band together.

Green Day was my favourite band for years. They got me into rock music in the first place at the age of 10 or 11 after watching their musical, and for that I will always be thankful. While I have moved on from the rebellious spirit of punk rock, it was still their influence that led me (haha, a pun) to get into blues-rock and hard-rock bands the likes of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Incredible guys with incredible talent.

Nothing compares to the «Jesus Of Suburbia»! Its like their songs are for everybody, every audience that sings back their songs is not just reflecting what Green Day are saying with that song.. It is also.. Reflecting their lives being in that song.. Billie Joe is an amazing performer, musician, song-writer and singer, Mike is awesome underrated bassist ( with the best bass lines in history ) and Tre’ Cool is the most bad ass, funny, pure energy, and great Rock and Roll drummer ( with awesome drum solos ). Their line up is the best

Green Day from the 90’s through 00’s they have had so many interesting songs that each sound so different from the other. which makes them special in my opinion because most artists songs do seem to mimic their other songs.

I love Green Day! They’re absolutely amazing! They changed how I think, how I react, how I even live!

I heard «Holiday» when I was 4 on the radio. I remember asking my older brother: «What’s the name of that song and who sings it? «. My brother looked at me and said: «It’s called Holiday and it’s by Green Day. » Since I was kinda young to be listening to their music, I had to wait a while until I could properly introduce my love for them. They’ve changed my life somehow. They’ve been there when I needed someone. When I needed help. Through their music, they’ve taught me so many things. I don’t know where I would be without them; I don’t know WHO I would be without them.

Billie Joe’s smart, funny and an amazing singer and guitarist. He really shows what he believes through his songs.

Mike’s the best bassist in all of history. He can move his fingers in a way that completely captivates my soul.

Maiden is one of the very few bands that could last for over 30 years and still have the same image as when they first came out; and still be writing, making, and playing as well as ever before. Their recent album releases rival the all around greatness of their first couple of breakthrough masterpiece albums, and they show no sign of slowing down. When you have one of the greatest and most influential bassists, drummers, vocalists, and 3 of the greatest guitarists in metal, Iron Maiden is the only thing that can come from it.

Their greatness can not be overstated, and I believe they should have been in the top 3, along with Zeppelin and Metallica.

Journey, Avenged Sevenfold, and Xjapan in the top 10 best bands of all time? What a sad and horrible list. Iron Maiden is the best metal band ever. They should be in the top 10 at least. Yes, they are even better than metallica. When they first started off in 1980, their music was just as good as metallica and probably even better. The difference between the two bands started showing with the later albums. Metallica kept on going downhill with load, reload, etc. They then finally died releasing the abomination called St Anger. Maiden never went to much downhill with their new albums which were always good and never bad or horrible. that’s why their superior.

Linkin Park Sucks, not as bad as jonas bros and one direction but still.

Green Day And Red Hot Chili Peppers are decent bands, but they don’t even have the same legacy and level as some bands.

Metallica is good but no.5? that’s blasphemy

Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana isn’t even that influential. Although they are good bands that get the recognition they deserve,They are NOT top 10 material. (Nirvana is a little overrated to be honest)

All of these bands I mentioned don’t even compare to IRON MAIDEN.

Maiden, Sabbath, The Doors, Ramones,Judas Priest, Motorhead, Radiohead, and Jimi Hendrix should be higher.

I remember doing a song intro quiz before I started listening to Aerosmith. Dream On came on and I had never heard it before, but something possessed me to say «That’s Dream On by Aerosmith, right?» and I was gobsmacked when I got it right. So, after it was over, I listened to the song and it begun a year-long love for Aerosmith, one that still goes on to this day.

How is Aerosmith below stupid Linkin Park, Nirvana, and all them bands that are just inspirations off of Aerosmith?! Aerosmith has already shown they are One of the best bands ever- visiting Japan in their worst times in 2011 after their earthquake and rocking for them- selling 168 million albums in 40 years- countless hits- they even covered the Beatles, the Doors and other bands- making the original songs look like nothing. Admit it- Steven Tyler is the best rock band singer, or possibly just singer in general- Joe Perry is the best guitarist to walk the Earth- and so is Brad Whitford. Tom Hamilton is the best bassist and wrote their hit «Sweet Emotion», and Joey Kramer creates the thunder unlike ANY other drummer- he can drum so fast the strobe lights can’t even catch him!

Aerosmith is bloody brilliant- To think they are actually below knock offs of Aerosmith is really sad. Tyler’s got lyrical talent and amazing vocals- Perry is chock full of catchy riffs and Hamilton is great for a band that’s not bass heavy.. The fact that these guys have lasted from ’71 to now, still throwing out hits is just amazing. This list just shows how far people’s musical knowledge has fallen.. Because these guys should be in the top ten.. Easy.

My Chemical Romance..

Not only has Aerosmith released a ton of material, but they’ve managed to stay relevant through not only the 70s, but the 80s and 90s as well. Hell, they even had a top 10 hit in the 2000s. I love most of these classic rock bands as much as the next person, but I don’t think any of them have had the sheer staying power. Mostly people just remember them for their older songs. Aerosmith? Kept releasing great material long after most of these bands had just stopped.

They’ve brought to the world an all new Genre. Its called, Linkin Park. The combination of Chester (Amazing voice) and Mike Shinoda (Rap) is just insane. They’re awesome. No one can match chester’s voice when it comes to shouting like that and yet find it so pleasing. Linkin Park forever. They’ve produced music that no one can ever forget. Lives always somewhere within. Somewhere very deep.

They can’t be beat they change their music they have so many hit songs they are in TRANSFORMERS. They have the most views of any rock band on youtube

New divide, what I’ve done, crawling, in the end, numb, faint, breaking the habit and so many more hit songs. THEY ARE SIMPLY THE BEST

I do indeed LOVE Likin Park, but there’s a place (near Chicago) called Lincoln Park. So now I’m wondering if they knew when they were naming the band that the place existed or if it existed then, because the place is close to where I live, so it caught my attention and that’s how I found them.

Honestly this vote is probably very biased because I’ve listened to them since I was born and cannot for the life of me see any of these other bands as better then Linkin Park because they will always be the top for me. Their band has explored multiples of genres across the board of literally everything including pop, rock, metal, electronica, and rap that they’re basically just in a league of their own. They have edited their style and changed as a band drastically since hybrid theory back in 2000, releasing chart topping albums that swept the world off their feet. They’ve received a lot of hate for their style but they will never be beaten for being the most versatile band out of all of them. That kind of makes them the best in my book. I totally understand all other votes but this is one that really takes me by my heartstrings. Linkin Park have captured people with their music and stories, and will forever be iconic in the rock industry. RIP Chester, he really was a game changer.

Best Band to Grace this Earth Period. Been listening to them since I was a little tike and let me tell you something I’m a modern day Plato from listening to these guys. Kiedis theory isn’t perfect but it’s close, his insightfulness has been the foundation of my constitution of which I live by today. He’s taught me more than any teacher could ever teach me and I love him for that, now back to the band. They fuse all these great sounds that we as humans know, love, feel and can’t explain and the peppers extract those feelings from us and take us on a ride of a beautiful thing we call life. They are more than just a band to me, they are my medicine, I bleed the Red Hot Chili Peppers. If I had one wish other than everlasting wellness for my family, it would be that these guys would find the fountain of youth.

I’m sure the bands above these guys are extremely talented and have been incredibly successful in their careers, but the Red Hot Chili Peppers are just a legend still being born. They’ve inspired the creation of many other bands and I really believe they deserve a Top 10 spot. Who doesn’t know of RHCP? Who doesn’t enjoy at least one of their songs? The Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the greatest rock bands in history. They can generate a different sound, vibe and mood with every album released.

Red Hot Chili Peppers. I really hate to go out and say something is the best band ever, because I really hate to give a biased statement, but the chili peppers deserve the title of best band ever. It’s because they are centuries head of their time, one of the few bands ever that can mix the nice groove of funk and still have the edge of hard rock. They know how to make an album with the perfect balance of the elements of groove, emotion, and rock. They are all great musicians and masters of their instruments. Red Hot Chili Peppers are one of the few bands ever to ever have such power in their music. Such a strong power can save lives, for yet, they did save mine.

Red hot chili peppers are the best band alive. Well that’s what I think. I have grow up listening to these boys and they are what makes my life good. When I listen to these boys they take all my sadness away. They are like the excitement in my life. Even though I wasn’t born when rhcp was most famous, when I first listened to them I felt like I was just blessed. I know everyone on this planet can not love there songs and flea is just one of the most amazing people that has ever been born. So I just believe that they should be at number 1 or at least in the top 5 let alone the top ten. God bless red hot chili peppers, you’ve saved my life!

I consider all Jimi Hendrix led bands to be beyond any other rock artist in any given milieu. The only reason I can think of JHE languishing at 28 at the time of writing this, is that even to understand JHE you need to be an experienced musician; his riffs created genres, his lightning fast solos are to this day considered to be untouchable, he was the first to use guitar feedback as music, Mitch Mitchell’s drums CANNOT be recreated by anybody other than himself.
Whoever brings a little bit of Hendrix into their playing style is considered to be a gifted player. Joe Satriani, Slash, Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Frusciante (RHCP) among others all consider Jimi Hendrix to be their influence. Heck, even Jimmy Page acknowledged Hendrix to be the greatest.
This goes for the amazing Eric Clapton band Cream as well.

I love the Experience, have 2 of their cd’s but the reason they aren’t up there in the list is because Jimi Hendrix IS the band, no disrespect to the other guys but they are shadowed, Jimi always had a back up band, and it wasn’t always this, they are the best of his bands, but he had Band of Gypsies and a couple other groups at different times. This is why groups like David Bowie and The Spiders From Mars aren’t in the list, because the BAND isn’t noticed, the LEGEND is, and what a super legend is Hendrix! Rock and Roll hall of famer and The Rolling Stones best guitarist ever.

Come on! How can I find The Jimi Hendrix Experience this far down on the list? The best guitarist of all time deserve a much higher place on this list.

Look at some of the bands above. How would any of them be able to beat the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Listen to «Machine Gun», «Voodoo Chile», «All Along the Watchtower» and then come back here. You’ll see who really deserves the top spot of this list!

The fact that Jimi Hendrix is in this band should have already put it on number 1. Hendrix was a legend and even though his career was short-lived, his influence in rock music will stay forever. This man has made the best guitarists we know today not to mention invented distortion and thereby creating millions of hard rock and metal bands today. He created Rock music as it is today.

Since All That You Can’t Leave Behind the band has become more and more what their fan base wants ( expects? ) them to be. Nobody does U2 better than themselves, but I sometimes wish they would throw practical thinking to the wind and not think about the commercial market at all. Each recent album has about 7 or 8 songs I love on them but also some obvious attempts at trend following that, in my opinion, stand out glaringly. If they are going to go in the direction of their «classic sound», go all in and don’t dilute it with sops to the popular sounds of the moment. They are leaders, not followers! Still one of the greatest bands of all time.

U2 is basically the biggest rock band out there right now. They have known how to adapt their sound every time, changing all their music a several times, reinventing! What makes them even bigger is the thing that although their have been reinvented quite a few times, their music is always good (except in the album Pop. ). They should be the number one of the list: With or without you, Where the Streets Have No Name, I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, Pride, the Unforgettable Fire, Sunday Bloody Sunday, New Year’s day, Vertigo, Beautiful Day, City of blinding lights, Walk On, Unknown Caller, Moment of Surrender. Someone can reach them, but no one can be better!

I totally agree that Radiohead has been one of the best bands the world has ever seen. This band keeps creating great music and survived the demise of grunge. One thing that makes Radiohead amazing is that they adapted to the conditions and endured it well. Thom Yorke has an amazing voice, Jonny Greenwood and Ed O Brien are badass guitarists. My opinion is that despite their influence, they don’t deserve a place this low. Radiohead truly deserve top ten place. Their influence will be everlasting. The music from OK Computer and The Bends has given a lot of influence in rock, especially in England. Without Radiohead, bands like Coldplay and Keane might not even have existed. They also did something that only a few bands can; go your own way, and they did it with the album Kid A.

After all this years I realized that music is equally great as it speaks to people, but not just to their feelings but deeper. Music is proportionally great as it speaks to your soul. Many bands do that. They connect to people’s souls in many ways. But Radiohead is different. Cause their «music» IS your soul. Radiohead is the sound of people’s souls. That’s why I put the word music in quotations. Cause you can’t define the sound of one’s soul. It is felt, It is lived. Like every heartbeat in your chest, like every breath you have in this right moment. Like every beautiful thing that you’ve seen in your life. Like the feeling you have for the ones you love. It is felt. It is lived. No words to be said. No questions to be made. You just live it. Same’s with Radiohead. The best band of all time.

The Doors shouldn’t be considered a Rock Band, they were so good, that they should just be called LEGENDARY. There are only 4 other bands in my opinion that are that good. (The Who, The Stones, Supertramp, and Yes.

Few have made records that are as perfect as «The Doors» and «Strange Days» and «L.A Woman» the only Exceptions would be The Who’s «Quadrophenia», Yes’ «Fragile», Pink Floyd’s «Animals» Supertramp’s «Crime of the Century» and of course Led Zeppelin IV.

All of these candy ass wimps from the 90s shouldn’t even be on this list. They wish they could make music half as good as The Doors could. Nirvana, Radiohead, Green Day, Metallica, Linkin Park. All of their songs are all about partying, getting drunk, and white people with no soul being pissed off at the world, when their music is the real reason to be pissed off at the world.

There will never be another Jim Morrison. Jim paved the way for live concerts to come alive, for the audience to really come for a spectacle and witness art. First and foremost Jim was a scholarly poet singing and writing timeless classics, but then backed up by Ray, Robby and John. These 4 were masterminds. They had film and literary backgrounds and were oneof the smartest bands to date. These guys really were in sync when it came own to music. I’ve never heard a more consistent discography from any band, although there is only 6 albums (with Jim) by them, every song is a masterpiece. The Doors really turned the music scene on its back, true musicianship and definitely top 3.

God, what do I need to say about Van Halen to make a point that they deserve the top spot? Oh, the answer should be nothing, that much is already clear. Eddie Van Halen was the greatest guitarist of all time, without a shadow of a doubt, and self-taught. Wow. His brother, Alex, is a fantastic drummer who tied the band together. David Lee Roth, without the typical singing skill, had the skills of a frontman able to control an audience, a true performer. And with Mark Stone on bass, these guys are just incredible and a true influence to almost every rock band nowadays.

Really, twenty four? How, just tell me how. Van Halen deserves to be higher, at least in the top ten. They were the first band to combine heavy metal with hard rock, and truly produce their own sound. If their first album was their only album they would still be in the rock, and roll hall of fame. Here’s one name for you. Eddie Van Halen. Him alone is one reason why they should be higher. Eddie is arguably the best guitarist in history. Just listen to Eruption sometime, or even Runnin’ With the Devil, Panama, Mean Street, or Light Up the Sky. 194 is an album that did not only change rock history, but also pop music with its synth, and songs like I’ll Wait, Jump, and even the instrumental piece 1984. Just tell me why they aren’t number one.

Van Halen kicks more ass than any band ever! The first six albums done with David Lee Roth kick more ass than any band ever! Now don’t get me wrong. There are many other bands that are great (many already appear above here) but how can you beat the best rhythm section there ever was combined with the most incredible frontman the world has ever seen? This is the only band who can take my bad mood and turn me into god.

When I listen to Van Halen I feel like I can do anything.
My body feels lighter, I feel freer. Van Halen is a drug in and of itself, and I am forever addicted.

Van Halen is one of the greatest, most iconic American rock bands. They’re the only 80s hair metal band (with the exception of Guns n Roses) that actually had the talent and songwriting skills to back up their egos. They are instantly recognizable. Eddie was a pioneer of shredding and had a unique tone that was impossible to match (he had a melodic shredding technique that no modern rock band has been able to mimic, with the exception of maybe Tremonti). Alex and Michael had an awesome, heavy, rocking rhythm section (which helped contribute to their relaxed, but heavy sound). And David Lee Roth’s (and later Hagar’s) voice helped tie everything together to create the greatest party music of all time (nothing new can touch it). Van Halen needs to be up with Aerosmith, Metallica, and the Eagles as one of the best American Rock bands ever.

Dave Grohl is an inspiration. Can play any instrument he wants and has a voice from heaven. The man was in two of the greatest bands on the planet, that must count for something. Oh and Taylor Hawkins is a badass on the drums, I wouldn’t doubt it if he was actually almost better than Dave. Dave is the best drummer ever to live other than John Bonham. Kurt could have been biased when he said he was the best drummer ever but I’ll take his word.

The Foo Fighters are the definition of the perfect stadium rock band. Dave Grohl has the amazing ability to make even those in the nosebleeds feel like they are in the front row, jamming along. The band has such intense feeling for their music and all of Dave’s lyrics still remain as important to him as the day he wrote them. The Foo Fighters are a truly spectacular band who deserve to be much, much higher on this list.

Why is this band not in top 10? They are the fastest improving band over the years and the music that they play is melodious. Dave Grohl is a fantastic songwriter and vocalist and they’ve got a killer drummer in Hawkins as well. I have rarely heard any bad song of theirs. They even know how to experiment with other styles like acoustic ballads, slow country rock songs and garage rock distorted music.

I can’t believe this list, it is ridiculous to have some of these bands on here period! Regardless I know Foo Fighters aren’t the best here, but they definitely deserve mug better credit. I voted for them because they are the best modern rock band around. Also the classic rocks bands should definitely take the top ten spots E.G. (led zep, Pink Floyd, the doors, Beatles rolling stones etc. ) but that’s just my opinion.

I’m a 16 year old kid, obviously I am going to pick a modern rock group. But you must understand that I grew up with rock. All my life I’ve loved Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, etc. I can gladly say my second favorite song is, «While My Guitar Gently Weeps» and my third, «Comfortably Numb». But my all-time favorite song is, «Failure» by Breaking Benjamin. They have a sound that is so modern and melodic that I can feel the emotion their music brings. If you haven’t heard Breaking Benjamin, you should. Start with, «The Diary of Jane» and move on from there.

This band is simply amazing. Benjamin burnleys voice is superb. The guitar riffs are splendid. The quality of their music is marvelous. Songs such as the diary of Jane, had enough, crawl, dance with the devil, dear agony, what lies beneath etc are definitely must-listen sings. It is sad to know that not many people have heard of this band. Basically people just listen to the popular bands and ignore the » talent packed» bands such as BB. That is why BB is kind of underrated. Their songs give me solace whenever I’m distraught or I’m feeling crestfallen. This band deserves to be in the league of the other top bands!

One of the greatest. They don’t just make you like the lyrics, they make you feel the song. Ben is just an amazing musical singer and guitarist. Aaron is a great guitarist and a funny guy. Mark and chad play very complicated parts and are very nice and selfless. They are some of the nicest people. One of the bands that proves that not all music is bad nowadays. If you haven’t heard of them, go listen to them. They are amazing!

*Easily* my favorite band ever (and that’s saying something, when I like to Within Temptation, Epica, Kamelot, Nightwish, et. al. ). Benjamin Burnley is a brilliant singer who is backed by an excellent band and a whole slew of amazing songs. Out of my 20 favorite songs, 7 of them are by Breaking Benjamin, led by the incredible «Diary of Jane», «Dear Agony», and «Anthem of the Angels. » Dear Agony is the only album I own with a perfect rating on every song (Sorry, Phobia, but «Topless» and «You Fight Me» don’t make it, even though the rest are stellar).

Um why is Linkin Park ahead of A7X? They had 2 good albums! That’s it! Avenged Sevenfold has the most unique sound to this date. They have one of the greatest guitarists of all time and probably the best duo of guitarists I have ever heard. And M Shadows probably has the most unique voice for a rock band I’ve heard. Yes, nobody will ever beat Metallica but Avenged Sevenfold at number 9? Whoever voted apparently doesn’t really know what good music is. 30 Seconds to Mars is trash, Tokio Hotel is trash, and Linkin Park should be off this list. A7X foREVer

All of Green Days stuff blends together making it difficult to enjoy there music and on top of that, there is hardly any range in the lead singers voice.
Linkin Park only had a couple good albums but then decided to evolve with the views of society and change the way the made music. All of it is garbage and they definitely shouldn’t be among the top ten.
At the very least, Avenged Sevenfold should ranked number 10. I can only think of two voices more unique than M. Shadows and you honestly can compete with the incredibly skilled guitarists who have the finger dexterity of immortals to be able to play those riffs near flawlessly while recording and while live. Each song tells a very unique story and I have yet to come across one that sounds anywhere close to the next. Avenged Sevenfold is Love, Avenged Sevenfold is Life.

It was really a hard choice to select the best rock band out of these, cause all of them are just so great. Queen, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Linkin Park, Guns N’ Roses, and so on. But Avenged Sevenfold is just something else. A7X has got the most unique songs ever. The guitar is so amazing! And the drums, oh, how do I even begin? Jimmy was the best drummer ever! And the vocals are so great, too. I love all of their songs, and I mean ALL. From A Little Piece Of Heaven to So Far Away to Afterlife to Dear God to Bat Country and what not. They are so unlike the songs of other bands and some of them have so many emotions in them that it makes me cry sometimes. Truly a genius.

I would regularly vote for Led Zeppelin or The Beatles, but A7X is my favorite band, so I’m voting for them. I refuse to believe Linkin Park is ahead of Avenged Sevenfold. Don’t get me wrong, Linkin Park used to be good, but they blow now. Avenged Sevenfold is quite the opposite. I’m a fan of A7X so of course I’m gonna say all of their music is great, but speaking in terms of popularity they have gotten better and more popular since their first album. On their most recent album, «Hail to the King», they went for a more classic style of hard rock/heavy metal and let me just tell you, I think they did a fantastic job. Their «break-through» album, «City of Evil», has had a more metalcore, thrash-metal sound to it and sounds phenomenal.
