How to make a backing track

A backing track (backing track) is a special kind of music track (work) without words that are present in the original track (song). The backing track is well suited for learning to sing (vocal), karaoke performance, as well as for preparing various musical holidays and shows.

However, it is quite difficult to choose exactly the backing track that meets all your requirements, even on the Internet. But there is a way out – in order to create a minus soundtrack from a song on your own, there is a very good program – Adobe Audition. The following is a step-by-step instruction on how to make a backing track.

First you need to download and install Adobe Audition. After that, perform some manipulations with the song (music track) that you are going to process in the program:

Make four copies of the music file, name each copy in this order: original, bass, mid, treble.

Then boldly open Adobe Audition and paste all four copies of your musical composition into it. After that, select the original track and view the resulting sound wave.

After that, right-click on the wave you selected, then in the context menu, find the “filters” section, and in the section itself, find the “central channel extraction” subsection – click on it. After that, the program will open an additional window with the settings of the center channel of your track.

Start adjusting the volume of the center channel by moving the slider to the right or left, after which you can set the desired width of the midrange cut in the “discrimination settings” panel. Periodically, it is advisable to press the “view” button to track the changes that are taking place, also adjust the settings until the results you are completely satisfied with. Then click the “ok” button.

After that, switch to the track called “low frequencies”, still right-click on it, select “scientific filters” in the context menu, and then select the “butterword” section in the window that opens. Look carefully at the cutoff frequency to make sure it is 800 Hz. All changes that occur should be viewed using the “View” button.

Do all the above operations also with the remaining tracks: “mid frequencies”, “high frequencies”. In them, for the “bandwidth” area, you should set 800 – 6000 Hz. Also don’t forget to cut the center channel in all edited tracks.

Achieve the required quality and effect in extracting voice from a musical composition. After all the manipulations done, the voice in the tracks will disappear, and the sound of all musical instruments will remain high-quality and natural.

After all, create a “multitrack” from all four tracks. To get started, arrange all the tracks in the working window in turn, carefully check and listen a few more times for the presence of residual voice sounds. If everything is in order and everything suits you, feel free to save the multitrack to an audio file, which will be located in the specified location on your computer.

What is a backing track?

A backing track is an audio recording of a song that features primarily the rhythm instruments. Typically, there is no vocal track, and no obvious melody or lead/solo instruments in order to help students play and practice on top of the rhythm section without being distracted or having to compete with the lead instruments and vocals.

It’s also a great tool for learning the styles of well-known musicians, and emulating their solos. Imitating is a great way to learn new songs initially, but to truly master a song, at some point, we all need to learn it and commit to memory without relying on having to play along with a section, solo, or bit.

Backing tracks have come a long way from the old CD’s (or even cassettes). Remember those? There would be several versions of the same song on a CD – one with the lead melody, and then several versions in different keys without the lead melody.

Those backing tracks (or “accompaniment tracks”) were versatile because you could practice playing melody, comping, or soloing. And no need to worry about the rhythm section getting bored!

A variety of apps have now made backing tracks even easier to use. Features like looping, selecting any key, and changing tempos allow you to dial in exactly the type of background track that you want to jam to.

2. Guitar Jam Tracks: Scale Trainer & Practice Buddy

The Verdict: This is the most popular of the “Jam Tracks” series of apps from Ninebuzz. This version – the Scale Trainer & Practice Buddy – is geared at beginner guitarists just figuring out how to use scales over chord changes. It’s an excellent solution for this goal. It provides guides to scales, breaks down the chord changes, then gives you five jam-along tracks to begin with. Additional tracks require In-App Purchases. To dig more into specific styles, see the Jam Track apps for Acoustic Blues, Humbucker Blues, Rock, Jazz, or Reggae.

3. Chordbot

The Verdict: Chordbot is part songwriting tool and part practice tool. You can create your own backing tracks by selecting chords to create a chord progression, than selecting a comping pattern. Using these building blocks, you can create your own sections, loops, or entire song structures. This can help for songwriting, or just for creating a groove to solo over. It gets high marks for being well laid out and easy to use. Try the free Chordbot Lite version first to get a feel for it.

4. JamUp Pro

The Verdict: Similar to AmpKit, JamUp Pro is a multi-purpose app with effects, amp modeling, a phrase sampler, and the ability to access tracks from your iTunes library for jamming along. You can also upload them on YouTube and Facebook, for personal use and live performances, provided you properly credit me. You will not receive copyright claims on YouTube or Social Media.

They suit elementary, intermediate and also advanced musicians.

They are all professional backtracks which can help musicians, guitarists, singers and players improve, jam, practise and at the same time have a high quality arrangement with intuitive chord progressions, in different keys and many different styles. The mix and master is up to today’s standards.

However, they cannot be re-sold through distributors or record labels. This can create copyright issues. If you’re unsure about this, this article is for you.

Where are my backing tracks available?

In addition to streaming on YouTube and other Platforms, you can find them on all stores as Mp3s 320. They’re even available as uncompressed lossless high quality *.wav and *.flac on BandCamp.

I usually group them in 10-track albums of similar style. All downloadable both as albums and as single backing tracks.

In addition, here’s a playlist with all my backtracks on YouTube. You can save it and listen later when you have time to try them out.

How to Create a Guitar Backing Track

\n A helpful guide to producing backing tracks on your own without any expenses.

\n So what is a guitar backing track? In short, it’s a recording that is created to help guitarists learn and practice well-known songs. This is different from a JamTrack, which is usually just a band playing a riff in a certain key and/or style.

There are no strict rules on what musical instruments should be used in a backing track, however Bass and Drums are the minimum requirements since they provide the foundation of the song.

Step-by-step

A DAW is a Digital Audio Workstation, which is a fancy word for a PC- or Mac-based computer program used to make recordings. VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology, which is basically a digital instrument or effect that you can play and edit in the DAW. There are links below on if you still need more information about what these are or to learn how to add a VST plugin to your DAW.

The DAW used in the example below is FL Studio 12 and the plugins are Addictive Drums 2 and Broomstick Bass. You can get free trials for this software following the links below.

Open your DAW. As example I use FL studio 12.

Click FILE=> IMPORT=> MIDI. Now, select your MIDI file.

Start with the drums, right-click the drums track and then click REPLACE=> ADDICTIVE DRUMS 2.

The Addictive Drums window will open. Sometimes drums will stop playing after we add a VST Plugin.

In order to make them play again and this time more realistically click \»?\» => Map Window in top right corner.

Step 6

Select GM as your Map Preset.

Now the drums should sound more \»live.\»

Step 7

Now to bass tracks. Everything is done exactly the same way.

Right-click the bass track in Channel Rack and then click REPLACE=> BROOMSTICK BASS.

Set \»Manual\» instead of \»Auto.\»

Step 9

Again, it’s possible that Bass will no longer play after the replacement or it will sound too low or only some notes won’t sound.

In order to fix this, open the bass track’s Piano roll.

Select the entire bass track by pressing CTRL+A.

Move the bass track one octave higher by pressing CTRL+↑

You may need to do it almost always if a song is played in a lowered bass tuning, especially if that’s a 5-string bass.

There are over twenty guitar teacher’s backing tracks in the original «Deluxe Download» put together in order to get your students «up and running» on guitar from a standing start. Guitar Backing Tracks: Em Am B7

This progression is similar to the one that introduces the F Chord in that it uses chord shapes that a student already knows (Em and Am) and a new shape (B7). If you take a look at the handouts above you will see that there are two sheets offering a a choice of B7 shapes as well as one which provides the shape for a bar chord of B7. The track is also a great one for improvising lead lines using the Em pentatonic scale and one of the sheets above features guitar necks and blank tab in order to allow you to teach licks, lines and phrases drawn from relevant scales and shapes. It’s up to you as a guitar teacher to assess just what your student will find useful

Guitar Backing Tracks: Vamp over a single chord of A

This one is designed to be used to introduce guitar players to soloing and there are loads of relevant handouts in the guitar teachers toolkit to assist with this Above you can see a few handouts themed around the Am Pentatonic scale (great for teaching techniques like bends,slurs and hammer ons) There is also a blank handout (on the bottom right of the picture above) which allows you to specify your own favourite scales, positions fingering and tab to use when teaching your students to compose convincing solos and single note phrases

Guitar Backing Tracks: Amaj7, Dmaj7, E7

Smooth funky stuff going on here using three of the seventh chords (Amaj7, Dmaj7 and E7) that can be found in the key of A. If you take a look at the handouts above you will see that the chords are presented as open position chords and then as moveable four note shapes. There can be a tendency for novice or intermediate players to develop the impression that «full» chords, using as many strings as possible are somehow better than shapes that use four (or even fewer) strings (someone had better tell Nile Rodgers!). As well as being useful for helping to develop a functional knowledge of the guitar neck I use this type of progression to help students to work on choosing where on the neck to play the relevant chord shapes and to help them to construct «intelligent» solos by asking them to choose a «target from each of the chords in the sequence to arrive on as the chord changes

Guitar Backing Tracks: E Blues Vamp

Think Chicago, Think «Hootchie Cootchie Man» «Bad To The Bone» and «Mannish Boy» If Muddy and Wolf are your thing then this one is a whole heap of fun. Great riff to use alongside E pentatonic minor and Blues Scales with handouts looking at «power chords» and ways that experienced guitar players often «cheat» when it comes to chord fingerings. I use this one to help students develop a «joined up map of the guitar neck» and ask them to play chords and short solo lines in a variety of positions.

Guitar Backing Tracks: Funk Blues A7, D7, E7

A funky bluesy kind of thing (think «Kiss» by Prince) using dominant 7 chords (A7, D7 and E7) This progression is ideal for helping your students to develop an effective «map of the neck» which allows them to move shapes around as well as to combine chords with single note passages (based on the Am pentatonic scale)

This one is included in the update for intermediate players but really it works just as well for beginners after they have mastered changing between open chords in time to music. The groove sounds a lot like it would fit with a song about a state in The Deep South or another themed around werewolves that alarmingly infest England’s capital city. Solos in the Bm pentatonic scale seem to work just fine with this one.

Guitar Backing Tracks: The «dreaded» F Chord

Experienced guitar teachers the world over know that you don’t try to teach somebody who is relatively new to the guitar how to play the chord of F. Even though music theory is best understood in the key of C (of which F is a very important chord) the chord itself is a nightmare to novice players because they are required to hold down two strings (the E and the B) with a single finger before they have gotten used to working with single strings. The backing track uses two «easy» chords of C and G along with the new F shape. If the F chord is introduced at the right time during a course of study the student will take it in their stride and will be surprised when you tell them that countless would be guitar players simply gave up and became convinced that they would never be able to mater the guitar because they could not get their fingers around the (simple sounding) chord of F

Guitar Backing Tracks: Am, G, F and E

A great progression for getting your students used to changing between (bar?) chords and to help them to relax into putting together meaningful solo passages

Guitar Backing Tracks: G,Bm,C and D

Open chords on the handout shown but the track is equally useful for getting used to bar chords or for developing single note and solo playing. The Bm chord is one of the most useful chord shapes that a guitarist can learn after the eight chords covered in the beginners lessons as it is another important chord (chord III) in the key of G which is the best key for a beginner to concentrate on during the early weeks and months of guitar playing

Guitar Backing Tracks: G minor Blues Progression

Track in the style of «Green Onions» or «Help Me» giving your student the opportunity to develop their blues chops. The handout has instructions for a moveable chord riff that can be used throughout the progression and the backing is also perfect for working on lead lines and fills using the G blues or pentatonic minor scales

Guitar Backing Tracks: Gmaj7, Cmaj7 and D7 Chords

A progression using diatonic 7th chords drawn from the key of G. The handouts above present the chords in both open position and as «moveable» four note shapes. As well as providing an opportunity to become familiar with different versions of the chords this track presents your students with the opportunity to construct solo passages and phrases

More material that sets out to get students used to playing the F chord shape. this progression is also a real help when getting used to playing bar chords. What are Backing Tracks

Backing Tracks are songs that contain musical accompaniment parts.
In these there are no melodies, leaving the soloist room to play, and possibly sing alongside it.

Backing Tracks Types

Can you use a player like that?

1. AUDIO
All songs that have sounds and notes created by actual musical instruments.
Can be played by computers or smartphones, as the mp3 songs.
You will not be able to change the tonality, nor other parameters, as instrument type etc.

2. MIDI
It is an exclusively digital format and can be played only by some specific players, but also computers or smartphones that have installed the appropriate software.
The sounds are virtual, “electronic”, although the midi will try to reproduce the real sounds.
You can vary virtually all of the parameters, tone, presence and type of instruments.
The audio quality is high, but the musical output can be poor as they attempt to imitate real life sounds, giving of an “artificial” tone, so they are not usually advisable for the musician who are using them as an accompanied piece.

Keys of the Backing Tracks

The key of a song is chosen according to vocal and instrumental requirements, as some arrangements make it better in different keys. Sometime they’re even simpler to play on an instrument.

The original singers logically have vocal qualities which is often higher than the average.
The average musician will sometimes need to modify the original key according to how it suits them. In addition, man and woman have different vocal characteristics, and the same song originally sung by a man, will often be transposed into a different key by a female singer. There are numerous examples of covers in this respect.

The band-in-a-box backing tracks of this site are sometimes in different key than the original, as they are made for personal needs, that is to say to my own vocal requirements, that sometimes require one or two tones under the original, as well as for my daughter also, to accommodate a female voice.

Of course, whoever needs different keys of their own, will choose to make the songs themselves through Band-in-a-Box, or search for the “sgu” version.

How to make a track

There are multiple approaches to creating a backing track.
When you buy a video card, you’d often receive a free music editing software, if you have the skill to play various instruments, you may record these parts to an accompaniment.

For simplicity, and saving time, you can assemble tracks played by actual musicians with a suitable software. For this I use Band-in-a-Box (BiaB).

In addition to the program, you will need files that contain “RealTracks”, so called by the BiaB.
After being satisfied with the music you’ve created through BiaB, set the time, notes, verse and chorus, instrumental parts etc. and finally export it, it will certainly not be identical to the original, but it can be a unique and interesting twist in and of itself.

Here you will find free backing tracks realized through band-in-a-box, and should you want to tweak them, you may do so through the BiaB program.

Small netbook: a solution for live

Avoid approaching a large notebook, which is often uncomfortably accessible. Furthermore to show the public a big computer while playing, it gives less of a professional impression.

Song reproduction must end when it is concluded, do not let it move over to play the subsequent (in succession or random). It is rare for a non-professional player to provide this opportunity.

To avoid problems, all my tracks have a silence space of at least 30 seconds in the end, to give you time to search for the next song, or stop reproductions.

Music Player. No repeat the song! (OFF)

You must absolutely avoid autoplay random and repeat, which occurs whenever a music has concluded.

Music Player on Android

If you decide to use a tablet or smartphone to play your tracks, you can choose from the many free apps available on Android (“.apk” software).

Some players can display lyrics (karaoke type), as this is a useful feature while aiding the song.
The main problem is searching for the songs.

Let me explain: As a playback moves along, we read the lyrics while the track is played. The problem comes when the song ends, as it wastes unnecessary time to search for the following selection, occasionally leaving us to entertain the audience with dull chit-chats, to avoid the long silence between one song and another.

So, an automatic search for the next track is required while playing, ready for it to start the play instantly when you want it.

Here’s the problem. There are no (or at least to my knowledge) android players that let you search while a song is in progress, especially without hiding the display of the lyrics that are being played during the search.

In fact, we would need two windows, one with the lyrics and other for the search list itself, readying us to set up the following song. In the absence of these, the playback will deprive us of a selection.

The BiaB “SGU”

“.sgu” is a file extension that Band-in-a-Box uses for the song files.
Auto created songs are saved in a format with extension of the file “.sgu”.

It can be exchanged between musicians or downloaded through the internet, allowing modifications.

The sgu file can be opened by BiaB and modified as you like, key, instruments etc.

What does “SGU” mean?

S tells us that the song does not have a melody.
G is always present, telling us that it is a song.
The U says the style, specifically “User style”.

Creating a Backing Track

Many of us make backing tracks to assist us in practicing chops, scales, routines, teach parts from songs or to give them to our band members in order to elaborate their parts if we don’t have the luxury of regular rehearsals. The difficulty of creating a backing track can range from very easy to very complicated depending on the quality and complexity that we are after (possible mixing – mastering). This article is going to introduce you to all the basic steps needed to get a very easily made backing track. and it’s going to be done as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) based recording.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

What you need will depend on the requirements of the track you want to create. Some might make a backing track on a Hard Disk recorder (such as Fostex-VF16), some on a sequencer (Yamaha RY9), a keyboard (Yamaha PSR250), some on a computer and some even on a mobile phone. A backing track can consist of 1 track (i.e. guitar or bass or keyboard) or a multitrack recording. Again it depends on what the aim is in terms of instrumentation and what you want it for. If you are recording on a computer based system (PC or MAC) you will need an audio interface and a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) such as: Cubase, Logic, Sonar, Record, Reason, Pro Tools etc.

STARTING OFF

Most of the DAWs nowadays come with sound libraries, plugins and VST instruments that enable you the option to record or program and arrange a project from scratch until the final stage. For this example we are going to use Steinberg’s Cubase 5. First of all we have to consider what instrumentation we need for our backing. If we need just to practice (jam) over it, you can make it one comfortable speed and play along with different time values. If you need it for teaching purposes you might have to consider programming everything in MIDI so you can adjust it easily at any time to any speed (bpm). So let’s create a new project, (empty), give it a name and save it.

The backing track for this example is an Ionian mode vamp using the root note on the bass all the way through, the strings and guitar playing I-IV-V chords under it. So we are going to use Groove Agent One & Halion One as they come with Cubase 5.

CREATING TRACKS

Then on each track we add each instrument that we need (on the Output of the track) and rename the track with the instruments name.

Make sure on all the tracks to set the MIDI outputs to the desired VST instrument for the track.

CREATING A DRUM BEAT

We’ll start by creating a drumbeat. Select the pencil tool from the menu bar and draw a bar.

Now go to MIDI on the top menu bar and select Drum editor.

Here we will program the drumbeat. For the example we’ll put a kick on the 1 st and 3 rd beat, a snare on 2 nd and 4 th beat and a hi hat counting 8th notes.

We hit play and we have the drum loop. You can duplicate the drum loop for as many bars as you want by right clicking on the created bar Edit-> repeat.

Here you can repeat the same loop as many times as you desire in order to make your track. For our purpose I’ll make it 8 bars

CREATING THE BASS

On the Bass track we start with the same technique (draw a bar with the pencil tool) and then we open the score editor or key editor under the MIDI menu.

Change the clef to F (bass Clef) by double clicking on the clef at the beginning of the bar and start inserting the note values on the chart. For the example we’ll be using a continuous 8th note pattern. And again we will duplicate that for 8 bars.

We chose the C note as we are going to be creating an Ionian vamp in the key of C.

CREATING THE STRINGS

Again, the same concept as above. We will be using a palm-muted sound playing the chords (power chords) in 8th notes and changing every 2 bars.

YOU’RE DONE!

So now you have your backing track ready to jam along with and you can change the speed at any tempo without affecting the sound or anything else.

This is a very simple way to create your own MIDI backing tracks. You can record audio tracks as well but the problem is that if you use time stretch in order to make it slower or faster then the sound will be losing audio quality and it is not always going to sound right unless you record your audio instrument separately for each tempo you need. Now you can export (bounce) the track to any desired audio format by going to File->export->audio mixdown.

How to make a backing track

First you need to download and install Adobe Audition. After that, perform some manipulations with the song (music track) that you are going to process in the program:

Make four copies of the music file, name each copy in this order: original, bass, mid, treble.

Then boldly open Adobe Audition and paste all four copies of your musical composition into it. After that, select the original track and view the resulting sound wave.

First you need to download and install Adobe Audition. After that, perform some manipulations with the song (music track) that you are going to process in the program:

Make four copies of the music file, name each copy in this order: original, bass, mid, treble.

Then boldly open Adobe Audition and paste all four copies of your musical composition into it. After that, select the original track and view the resulting sound wave.

Backingtracks.pro Marketplace Agreement (Seller)

Effective January 1, 2020

Plain English Version

What this Agreement says:

Our site allows you to upload backing tracks, whether they’re your original work or are covers, for sale to people who want to buy them. We help you make that music available to the world. If someone wants to buy it, you and we split the price the buyer pays. If your music is a cover work, we will try to obtain the license to the underlying work from Harry Fox Agency or a similar clearinghouse, and we will take care of the royalties required for the mechanical license. This agreement covers this arrangement and describes it in detail.

What you’d be giving us:

There are two transfers of your rights that can take place through our site. First, when you upload any music, you grant us a pretty general license to reproduce your work, to have it available on our site so people can hear a portion of it (to see if they want to buy it), among other things, all of which are detailed in the agreement below. We will not create derivative works of your music except for purposes of marketing our site (and your song’s availability for purchase). The second transfer takes place only when someone purchases a license to use your music, and the transfer is from us to the buyer. This second grant is very limited, and allows the buyer to do only two things, to practice and perform your music and to create demo recordings for the purposes of getting gigs. That’s it.

We will set a price for each of the tracks you upload, and will split the profits with you 50-50. We’ll send you money through PayPal by the tenth of each month.

This is just an overview. In order to upload any music to backingtracks.pro, you must read the following agreement and agree to its entirety. If you do not agree, you may not use this site.

Legalese Version

This Marketplace Agreement concerns the website located at backingtracks.pro, as well as the service owned and operated by SaxLove Productions, Inc. (“SaxLove,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), including any mobile software applications offered or published by SaxLove (the “Service”), and is between SaxLove and you (“Seller, “you,” or “your”) when you, through a Seller Account that you create on the Service, upload content whose rights and licenses you control to the Service (the “Marketplace Agreement”).

Acceptance of the Agreement

The Service is offered subject to acceptance without modification of all of the terms and conditions contained herein (the “Agreement”). The Agreement also incorporates our Privacy Policy and all other operating rules, policies and procedures that may be published from time to time on the Service by us, each of which is incorporated by reference into this Agreement and each of which may be updated by us from time to time without prior notice to you.

If you are using or opening a Seller Account on behalf of a company, entity, or organization (including but not limited to a recording label) (each, an “Artist Entity”), then you represent and warrant that you (i) are an authorized representative of that Artist Entity and any recording artists represented by such Artist Entity (each, a “Represented Artist”) with the authority to bind such Artist Entity or Represented Artist to the Agreement and (ii) agree to be bound by this Agreement on behalf of such Artist Entity or Represented Artist.

The Service is available only to individuals who are at least 18 years old. You represent and warrant that if you are an individual, then you are of legal age to form a binding contract, and that all registration information you submit is accurate, complete, and truthful. SaxLove may, in its sole discretion, refuse to offer the Service to any person or entity and change its eligibility criteria at any time. This provision is void where prohibited by law and the right to access the Service is revoked in such jurisdictions.

By creating a Seller Account, you represent that you understand all terms in the Agreement and that you agree to be bound by them without modification until your Account is terminated by you or by us.

To offer User Content on the Service, you must register as a Seller by creating a Seller Account. If you upload, post, or create any sound recordings and any associated copyrightable works or metadata, including without limitation song lyrics and musical notations, album cover artwork, photographs, graphics, and descriptive text (“User Content” or “Track,” as applicable) via the Service, you are responsible for such User Content, including securing and maintaining all rights and clearances relating thereto. If you tell us that your User Content is a cover work, we will try to obtain the mechanical license to the underlying work and pay the required royalties to the Harry Fox Agency or similar. We will reject any User Content whose mechanical license we are unable to secure.

When we use the term “Service”, we include the ability to upload your User Content to the Service for licensing of permanent digital downloads by others, including any technology, platform, solution or application program interfaces (“APIs”) included in or a part of such service, whether owned by us or licensed or otherwise made available to us by rights holders.

SaxLove does not guarantee that any User Content will be made available on the Service. We have no obligation to monitor the Service or User Content. However, we reserve the right to (i) remove, edit, or modify any User Content in our sole discretion uploaded to the Service at any time, without notice to you and for any reason or for no reason at all, including but not limited to upon receipt of claims or allegations from third parties or authorities relating to such User Content or if we are concerned that you may have violated this Agreement.

You agree that we may redistribute previously purchased copies of your Tracks to Buyers who have, in our sole determination, received a corrupted copy of your Track, an incorrect file format version of your Track, an incomplete copy of your Track, or suffered a loss of your Track through hard drive failure, damage, theft, or destruction on a no-fee basis to the Buyer. Such redistribution may be effected by allowing the Buyer to redownload a replacement copy. A Buyer who has a Buyer Account will also be permitted to redownload any previously purchased Track. In the event of any of the foregoing redistributions, no additional payments shall be made to you.

A Buyer who creates a new account receives, as a gift from our Service, a free backing track of their choice. You agree that the backing tracks that you submit do qualify for this free gift, and you understand that you will receive no commission on this transaction.

Your portion of the revenue we collect from any sales of your Tracks will be 50% of the then-current sale price (“Revenue”). Any Revenue will be sent to Seller via PayPal monthly by the tenth day of each month. Seller will not receive any Revenue for any order that is canceled, refunded, or charged back. You are solely responsible and liable for any PayPal fees, credit card transactions fees, and any finance charges you may incur.

Seller Account Obligations

You are responsible for maintaining the strict confidentiality of your registration information and you shall be responsible and liable for any access to or use of the Service by you or any person or entity using your registration information, device or other credentials, whether or not such access or use has been authorized by you or on your behalf, and whether or not such person or entity is your employee. It is therefore critical that you do not share your registration information with anyone. You agree to immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your registration information, account or device, or any other breach of security. It is your sole responsibility to (a) control the dissemination and use of your registration information, (b) update, maintain and control access to your registration information, and (c) cancel your account on the Service.

Fees and Payment Terms; Independent Contractors

In order to maintain a Seller Account, you must maintain an account with PayPal and ensure that your PayPal account information shared with us for the purposes of your Seller Account is complete, accurate, and up to date. You are solely responsible for all income taxes incidental to Revenue. You agree that you and we are independent contractors, and that you are not an employee or partner of SaxLove’s.

Intellectual Property Rights

As between you and us, we shall remain the exclusive owner of all intellectual property rights in the Service (including the underlying technology, software and content).

We will not have any ownership rights in any elements of any User Content. By uploading User Content to the Service, you grant us and our authorized sublicensees and distributors, if any, during the term of this Agreement, the worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free right and license to (i) reproduce, distribute, publicly perform (including on a through-to-the-audience basis and by means of a digital audio transmission), publicly display, create derivative works of for the purposes of marketing, communicate to the public, synchronize, and otherwise exploit (1) the User Content and perform the Service on your behalf (e.g., reproduce, transcode, copy and store the User Content on computer servers owned or operated by or on behalf of SaxLove or its authorized sublicensees and distributors, and publicly perform, transmit, synchronize, stream, distribute, and play back the User Content) using any technologies or methodologies now known or hereafter developed or in the marketing, promotion or advertising of the Service, including in all forms of marketing, promotion, and advertising materials now known or hereafter created; (ii) allow users of the Service to receive public performances and public displays of the User Content and to reproduce the User Content on any and all devices owned or controlled by the user for non-commercial purposes and receive performances and displays of same; and (iii) reproduce, use, and publish, and to permit others to reproduce, use and publish, the name(s), trademarks, likenesses, and personal and biographical materials affiliated with the User Content in connection with the provision of the Service.

By uploading any User Content to the Service:

If any agreement you have entered into with any third party, including but not limited to a PRO, music publisher, union, or guild, whether by law or contract, prohibits you from granting company the right and license set forth in this Agreement and making the representations and warranties set forth in the four paragraphs immediately above, then you are prohibited from uploading your User Content to the Service and shall be responsible for indemnifying and holding us harmless from and against any and all claims arising from the exploitation of your User Content on the Service, including but not limited to all court costs and legal fees.

The rights, licenses, and privileges described in this Agreement and granted to us shall commence immediately upon submission of your User Content and shall continue thereafter perpetually and indefinitely, irrespective of any maintenance or termination of your Seller Account and regardless of whether we accept your transmission.

Term and Termination

The term of this Agreement begins when you register as a Seller on the Service. The Agreement will remain in full force and effect for as long as you have an active Seller Account on the Service. Your Account is considered active until it is terminated by you or by us in accordance with the terms hereof. You may terminate your Seller Account at any time. Termination of your Seller Account constitutes termination of this Agreement.

Choice of Law; Venue

You and SaxLove agree that any cause of action arising out of or related to this Agreement must commence within one year after the cause of action arose; otherwise, such cause of action is permanently barred. This Agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Michigan, excluding its conflicts of law rules, and the United States of America. Any legal action between you and us must be instituted exclusively in the federal or state courts located in Washtenaw County, Michigan, and you consent to jurisdiction and venue in such courts.

Neither party shall be liable to the other party for any delay or default in performance of its undertakings of obligations under this Agreement if such delay or default is caused by force majeure, including wars, insurrections, fires, passing of laws or any governmental order, regulation or ruling, or any other act(s) beyond the reasonable control, and neither party shall have the right to terminate this Agreement unless such delay or default in performance is caused by force majeure for a period of three (3) weeks. During such force majeure event, the affected Party will use all reasonable efforts to avoid, reduce or eliminate the force majeure event’s prevention, restriction or delay of the performance of its obligations under this Agreement. A force majeure event does not excuse either Party’s obligation to make any payment under this Agreement.

Any notice or other communication to be given or served under or in connection with this Agreement will be sent either by notices published on our website or sent by e-mail to your stated email address. Our address for notices is admin@backingtracks.pro.

Modification of Agreement

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to modify or replace any of the terms in this Agreement, or change, suspend, or discontinue the Service (including without limitation the availability of any feature, database, or content) at any time by posting a notice on the Service or by sending you an e-mail. We may also impose limits on certain features and services or restrict your access to parts or all of the Service without notice or liability. It is your responsibility to check this Agreement periodically for changes. By continuing to use the Service after such changes are effective, you accept the changes. If you do not agree to the changes made, you must terminate your Seller Account in accordance with the applicable termination provisions. We will inform you by email or in the Service at our discretion of major changes to these terms. Notwithstanding the preceding sentences of this section, no modifications of this Agreement will apply to any dispute between you and us that arose prior to the date of such modification.

This Agreement contains the entire understanding and agreement between you and us concerning the Service and supersedes any and all prior, contemporaneous, or inconsistent understandings relating to the Service and your use thereof. This Agreement cannot be changed or terminated orally.

If any provision of this Agreement is held to be illegal, invalid or unenforceable, this shall not affect any other provisions and this Agreement shall be deemed amended to the minimal extent necessary to make it legal, valid and enforceable. Any provision which must survive in order to allow us to enforce its meaning shall survive the termination of this Agreement; however, no action arising out of this Agreement or your use of the Service, regardless of form or the basis of the claim, may be brought by you more than one year after the cause of action has arisen (or if multiple causes, from the date the first such cause of action arose).

No Waiver; No Assignment

Any failure of ours to exercise or enforce any right or provision of this Agreement will not operate as a waiver of such right or provision.

This Agreement, and any rights, licenses and privileges granted herein, may not be transferred or assigned by either you or us.

An easy guitar backing track for a first guitar lesson

During the early stages of learning to play guitar a student should be introduced to relatively few (normally eight) open chord shapes and should be given access to teaching materials that will encourage them to change between those shapes in time to music. In the early stages of learning the guitar a common mistake is to just carry on learning new chords. Experienced guitar teachers know that student progress is not measured by how many chords they know but by how comfortable and capable they are when it comes to moving between (at this stage) relatively few chords in time to music When they are operating well at this level it is no real problem to learn new and more advanced chord shapes on an «as required» basis as a student’s repertoire expands

Its a bit like when a child learns to speak fluently over a period of months and years. It would be lunacy to try to teach a toddler every individual word in the dictionary before working on putting those words into sensible phrases, statements and questions It is obviously better to have them understand a limited number of words and to become used to combining them thoughtfully before moving on to more complicated concepts and ideas

Developing Speed And Fluency On The Guitar

The remainder of the 20 backing tracks in the original «Deluxe Download» were largely concerned with helping a learner to change more quickly and securely between the eight shapes learned in time to music An example can be seen in the track below in which three of the shapes (A, D and G) are played at a medium tempo but with students required to change between them more rapidly that was the case during the very early stages when typically there were two full bars (8 beats) between one shape and the next

Help Your Beginner Students to Play Like Jimi Hendrix!

A pretty lofty claim I know and obviously stated with my tongue very firmly in my cheek but the point at which students reach the end of the «beginners» stage (by which time a guitar student would be confident and capable when it comes to moving fluently between the eight basic chord shapes covered to this point) can be regarded as being when they cope comfortably with the backing track below which uses all of the Major chords covered to this stage with the added challenge that the first part of the repeated sequence (C-G-D-A-E) requires a player to stay on each chord for only two beats rather than one or two full bars as was typical with other tracks to this point The track sounds a lot like a «classic» Jimi Hendrix track and if a guitar teacher gets a complete beginner to the point that they can make a reasonable fist of some Jimi Hendrix then they surely deserve a pat on the back

The more advanced guitar teachers backing tracks introduce the chords that a beginner needs to learn after the first eight have been mastered and when the basic motor skills required to change between shapes reasonably quickly have been developed They also provide guitar teachers with the opportunity to introduce more advanced concepts such as bending notes and an introduction to composing single note solos and licks

The early lessons are concerned with moving between chords that change relatively slowly while towards the end of the «beginner» stage a student will be able to cope with a track (such as the A-C-D-E progression that features further down this page) with relative ease

Guitar Backing Tracks that go «Beyond the Basics»

There are more than twenty guitar teacher’s backing tracks in the original «Deluxe Download» which was devised in order to get novice players «up and running» on the guitar from an absolute standing start. They are proven to be effective with complete beginners to the instrument but what about those students who progress through being able to change chords in time to music and who wish to progress to more advanced material (improvisation and more advanced chord voicings etc)?

The following material is (in no particular order) a closer look at some of the new backing tracks with some suggestions as to how you might choose to incorporate the materials into the guitar lessons that you give to your customers

Guitar Backing Tracks: The «dreaded» F Chord

Experienced guitar teachers the world over know that you don’t try to teach somebody who is new to the guitar how to play the chord of F. Despite the fact that music theory is best understood in the key of C (of which F is a very important chord) the chord shape is a complete nightmare to beginners because they are required to hold down two strings (the E and the B) with a single finger before they have gotten used to working with single strings. The backing track uses two «easy» chords of C and G along with the new F shape. If the F chord is introduced at the right time during a course of study the student will take it in their stride and will be surprised when you tell them that countless would be guitar players simply gave up and became convinced that they would never be able to mater the guitar because they could not get their fingers around the (simple sounding) chord of F

When guitar students get to this point it can be an ideal time to introduce music theory to them

Above you can see one of our handouts/worksheets that looks at the (very important) topic of understanding which chords will always sound good together. If your students can count from one to twelve and recite the alphabet from A through to G then they already have the tools they need to understand all music theory. Music Theory has nothing to do with notated music

Guitar Backing Tracks: Em Am and B7 Chords

This progression uses chord shapes that a student already knows (Em and Am) and a new shape (B7). If you take a look at the printed materials above you will see that there are two sheets featuring a choice of shapes for the B7 chord as well as another which provides the fingering for a bar chord of B7. The track is also effective when it comes to improvising solo lines and phrases using the Em pentatonic scale Another of the sheets you can see above features guitar necks and blank tab which allows you you to teach licks, lines and single note phrases drawn from relevant shapes and scales. This allows a huge amount of flexibility to the educator It’s up to you as a guitar teacher to assess just what your student will find useful and to help them in accordance with the way that they want to play (and you play) rather than prescribing a whole lot of random «set phrases and solos» as can be the case with a lot of the guitar methods on the market

Guitar Backing Tracks: A Vamp over a single A chord

This one is particularly useful when it comes to developing the ability to solo and put together simple single note phrases and it comes with a whole range of relevant handouts from the guitar teachers toolkit to assist with this You can see a few handouts based around the Am Pentatonic scale (really useful for teaching techniques such as slurs, string bends and hammer ons) You can also use the blank sheets (on the bottom right hand side of the illustration above) which allows you to identify and graphically explain your own favourite scales, positions fingering and tab

Guitar Backing Tracks: Amaj7, Dmaj7 and E7 Chords

Funky stuff going on here featuring three of the seventh chords (Amaj7, Dmaj7 and E7) that are commonly encountered when operating in the key of A. If you examine the handouts above you will see that the chords are presented initially in the open position and then again as moveable four note shapes. There can be a tendency for beginner or intermediate level guitar players to develop the impression that «full» chords, using as many strings as possible are somehow «better» than shapes that use four (or even fewer) strings (someone had better tell Nile Rodgers!). As well as being useful for helping to develop a functional knowledge of the guitar neck I like to use this type of progression to help my students to work on choosing where on the neck to play particular chord shapes and to help them to construct «well thought out» solos by asking them to choose a «target from each of the chords in the sequence to arrive on as the chord changes

Guitar Backing Tracks: E Blues Vamp

We’re off to Chicago, Think «Hootchie Cootchie Man» «Bad To The Bone» and «Mannish Boy» If Muddy and Wolf float your musical boat then this one is a whole load of fun. An effective riff to use with the E pentatonic minor and Blues Scales and accompanied by handouts looking at «power chords» and how experienced guitar players often «cheat» when it comes to chord fingerings. I use this one to help students develop a «joined up map of the guitar neck» and ask them to play chords and short solo lines in a variety of positions.

Guitar Backing Tracks: Funk Blues A7, D7 and E7 Chords

Blues and funk groove using dominant 7 chords (A7, D7 and E7) This progression is ideal for helping your students to develop their «map of the neck» which allows them to move shapes around as well as to combine chords with short single note licks and phrases (based on the Am pentatonic scale)

Guitar backing tracks: D C and G Chords

This one is included in the update for intermediate players but really it works just as well for beginners who can cope with moving between open chords in time to music. The groove sounds a lot like it would fit with a song about a state in The Deep South or another themed around werewolves that alarmingly apparently infest England’s capital city. Solos using the Bm pentatonic scale seem to work just fine with this one.

Open chords again and four note moveable versions so that your students can develop an effective «map of the neck»

The chord sequences like the free one that you can download further down this page which features the major chords of A D and G are largely based around the CAGED Guitar system which is used by teachers around the World as a way of developing novice musicians.

The Caged Chords in open position are C A Am G E Em D and Dm (hence CAGED).For absolute beginners this means that they are exposed to a set of open position chords generally regarded as the easiest and most useful to learn.

The backing tracks and handouts in the package are directed not only at total beginners but at the intermediate level players who need to develop skills with relation to bar chords/knowledge of the neck etc. To this end some of the handouts feature bar chord root finders as well as the relevant chord diagrams.

The backing tracks encourage a student not only to learn the shapes and change from one to the other but more importantly to make those changes in time with the music.

It isthe distinction between awareness of the chords and familiarity with them. In educational terms this makes a huge difference to a student’s progression

The Backing Tracks In Use With a Beginner

Guitar Lesson Topic 1: Open Chords and Single Strums

Lets take a closer look at just one of our backing tracks and the handouts that go with it.

We have a rock style backing track that uses a repeated chord progression consisting of one bar of each of the following chords. A C D and E. The chords are part of the CAGED System as it applies to the beginner and are all featured on the free Caged Guitar System handout that you can download free from this site.
When working with a complete beginner it is enough to ask of them that they learn to strum each of the chords once (with downstrokes of the plectrum) in time to the backing track. When this has been accomplished then more involved (down-up) strumming patterns can be introduced. Follow this link to see a much more detailed lesson plan dealing with a whole series of lessons aimed at the beginning and intermediate guitar student. The reality that lies behind the first few months of study for any novice is that the most effective plan is to introduce a set of suitable chords (that will allow them to play literally thousands of songs?) and to and to give them a collection of practice routines that will encourage them to be able to move comfortably between these chords at will

Guitar lesson Topic 2:

Beyond The Basics: The SameTrack And «Power Chords»

The same backing track (A C D and E) can be used again when the student is at a slightly more advanced stage (once they have mastered the basic open chords and the ability to move between them) The track can now be used to help develop a facility to play «power chords» (and from there work towards a situation where they will be able to handle full barre chords).

The handout featuring «Two Note Power Chords» which explains the principle behind the shape (simply a root note combined with another a fifth above it) and which also has a «Bar Chord Root Finder» on it serves as an aid to study and also helps develop in the student a «map of the neck»

Guitar Lesson Topic 3:

Working Towards Full Bar Chords

After mastering two note power chords its a relatively straightforward process to extend this principle to include the «fuller sounding» three note versions (featuring another note an octave above the root)

Again a «Root Finder» is supplied along with diagrams which will help a teacher to explain the principles behind the lesson.

Practicing three note power chords is an ideal preparation for the next step which is to develop the ability to form full bar chord shapes.

Guitar Lesson Topic 4

Bar Chords With Roots On The A and E Strings

Full Bar Chords now with root notes to be found on the E and A Strings.
A root finder is again provided in order to increase a students familiarity with the neck of the guitar. By asking students to use the root fider (rather than just by telling them where to play the relevant shapes) your customers are more likely to develop a «joined up» knowledge of the neck and move from a situation of «imitation» towards one of «understanding» which when you think about it is the whole point of the exercise?

Guitar Lesson: Topic 5

First Steps Toward Soloing

This guitar teaching sheet features the A minor pentatonic scale at the bottom of the neck. It is particularly suitable for novice players who wish to develop single note skills because they are ablle to generate «feel» without having to bend strings by sliding between the notes (eg sliding up from the B string at the third fret to the same string at the fifth fret or from the B string at the third fret down to the first). Working with this shape can be very satisfying for beginners as even those with a basic technique can produce «authentic» sounding lines

There are a series of tab grids to the right of the neck where teachers can write down licks and figures appropriate to the students current ability.
There is another sheet (not shown) which adds a further octave to the scale and takes it down to the A Sring Open

A teacher can use this shape as the ideal preparation for the next one where the scale is played in a different (more common?) position and bending notess can be introduced.

Guitar Lesson Topic 6

Extending The Am Pentatonic Scale

The sheet on the left shows the Am Pentatonic Scale played in a more common position (with the first finger positioned behind the fifth fret). Playing here allows students to bend strings (particularly the third string at the 7th fret with the third finger and the second string at the 8th fret with the pinkie)
Again there are several lines of blank tab that you can use to write down licks and runs for your students.
The scale is illustrated with shaded circles but the scales previously learned (at the bottom of the neck) are also shown in white so that a teacher is able to supply licks and figures that move between the shapes on the neck

Further Extending The Am Pentatonic Scale

There are two more handouts (shown on the left) which further extend the scale.
In addition to the rock backing track featuring the chords of A, C, D and E there is another (slower-funkier) backing track which uses the chords of A minor, D minor and E.

This track is also well suited to solos and single note phrases drawn from the A minor pentatonic scale and it is possible to transfer the knowledge and technical expertise developed whilst working on one track to the next.

How To Use The Backing Tracks and handouts

Above you can see some of the guitar teacher’s student handouts that go along with one of the other tracks in our package
The first handout features the open chords and is designed to help the novice work through from a position where they will be able to strum each chord once as the changes come around to a situation where they can make more involved «down-up» strumming patterns

The second sheet shows the bar chord shapes for the progression and is intended to be used with intermediate level guitar students
The third handout that you can see shows the bar chords along with the Am Pentatonic scale and is intended to help with the development of single note and soloing skills

A tip when using this sheet is to ask the student to play the chord as it changes and then to provide short single note fills before playing the next chord (these fills can either be from their own heads or you can provide appropriate figures as the lesson progresses)
This has the effect of breaking the single note sections into «short bursts» so that your guitar students are not confronted with the daunting prospect of having to solo over a long section of music. After a while of playing the «short phrases» longer sections of single note passages will not seem anywhere near as daunting

How to make a backing track

First you need to download and install Adobe Audition. After that, perform some manipulations with the song (music track) that you are going to process in the program:

Make four copies of the music file, name each copy in this order: original, bass, mid, treble.

Then boldly open Adobe Audition and paste all four copies of your musical composition into it. After that, select the original track and view the resulting sound wave.
